Yes, private Grigorie Ion was assisted by coporal Nica Vasile and sergeant Stan Gheorghe, but he was the one who took it. Candiano Popescu describes an episode with a captain Negoescu from the 16th Dorobanti Regiment who attempted to take the flag from Grigorie Ion and only the major's intervention stopped it.

Thanks Igor for the latest additions to the list of Romanian knights of the Russian Order of St. George. Do you also have the award dates for Maj. Gen. Mărgineanu and Maj. Gen. Cihoskii? By the way, did you manage to find the award date for Maj. Alexandru Candiano-Popescu who received the order in the 1877-1878 War? |
