You said you own a copy of the Vanatorul IAR-80 by Antoniu&Cicos.
At page 156 you have a photo of cpt. av. Ioan Sandu.
At page 165 you have a group photo which includes lt. "Tache" Baciu, cpt. av. Petre Constantinescu, adj. av. Aurelian Barbici.

Pictures of "Baciu" are in Dénes's Book on Romanian Aces.

I had read in Clemente Muresan's memoirs that Baciu had a beautyfull black mustache*, and pilots called him "Mustata" :loool: , not very nice....

*This was confirmed after seeing the pictures there.
Many other pilots are there, especially the most famous ones.

I'm looking for info on a Pilot "Sirbu"...
He might be the same "Sirbu" that was in Agarici's Hurricane Squadron...

My granfather was friend with this aviator, "Sirbu", and apparently this guy has a "scar" across his face.. I think from a flight accident.

If this is the Sirbu, with the scar - then it's him I'm looking for.

I found only one airman (fighter pilot) called Sârbu in my ARR accidents/losses database:
22-Oct-39 P.Z.L. P.11B+ serg. Anton Sârbu acc. av. a luat foc in aer

Thankyou Denes, I think that's him. If he is the one with the scar on the face, it must be him. Some other Aviators, very close coleagues and friends were as I mentioned before, a guy named "Virgolici" and "Brasoveanu", the later died of natural causes long after the war, while the first might still be alive.. There were a few other, I think one named "Constantinescu", but I must ask again.

** A nice picture of Pilot Scurtu is in your book of aces. He is 2nd from left, standing with the rest of the Aviators including Agarici, and with a Hurricane in the background. - Perhaps you could post this picture here, I would have done it if it was not "copyrighted" o:) 8)

23 june smile.gif exactly what I needed.

However I don't quite understand this: "Ioan Sandu was the highest-ranking Romanian airman killed in battle during WW2."

PS: thank you Victor !

The rank of cpt. cdor. is equivalent to that of lt. col. in the army. While in the Romanian army during WW2 we had even generals KIA, within the ARR, cpt. cdor. av. Ioan Sandu was the officer with the highest rank, who was KIA.
