I create this topic to have one place were to post information and to have discution with world wide weapon deals.

"PUNE, India --- As many as 10 countries have shown interest in Brahmos — the new generation supersonic cruise missile — jointly developed by India and Russia, and have made enquiries about the possibility of acquiring them, a senior official from the defence research and development organisation (DRDO) said, adding that at least three "trusted nations" have been short-listed by both the countries.

When contacted, A Sivathanu Pillai, the CEO and managing director of Brahmos Aerospace — the Indo-Russian joint venture company — besides being the chief controller (research and development) of Defence and Research Organisation (DRDO), only said the export of Brahmos will be strictly restricted to friendly third-world countries.

"We have received enquiries from some countries, but it won't be proper to disclose any names at this stage," he said, adding that both the governments would take a necessary decision as deemed fit.

While pointing out that the 290 km-range cruise missile — that can be launched from a variety of land, sea, sub-sea or air-based platforms — is already proving to be hit amongst many nations, senior DRDO officials said a decision to import will be taken only after seriously considering the security aspects of both nations.

"Both the Russian and Indian governments have decided that only those countries which can be trusted buy both sides will be considered for importing the missile," a scientist working at one of the DRDO labs said.

It may be recalled here that DRDO had recently test-fired the naval version of Brahmos, while efforts are now on to develop a similar version, capable of being launched from an aircraft.

While Brahmos Aerospace already has a tie-up with Russia's Rosoboronexport State Corporation to globally market Brahmos for both naval and air platforms, officials said a plan on joint export promotion of Brahmos has already been prepared and submitted to both the governments for approval.

The plan was prepared by Pillai and Andrey Beliyaninov, the director-general of Rosoboronexport, besides another senior member," a DRDO official said, adding that the matter was also discussed during Russian president Vladimir Putin's recent visit to India, and has also been given the go-ahead.

The plan envisages undertaking joint marketing activities, aimed at promotion of Brahmos to foreign countries."

How about "trusted nations"? tongue.gif

"Saab Bofors Dynamics AB has won another contract for the RBS 70 Air Defence Missile System, this time with the Czech Armed Forces as the end customer.

The order is worth MSEK 204 to Saab.

"In the past three years we have sold RBS 70 systems worth a total of over one billion SEK. This shows that the system is well adapted to meeting different customers' demands for modern anti-aircraft defence, and is performing well in tough international competition," says Tomas Samuelsson, President of Saab Bofors Dynamics.

Saab Bofors Dynamics won the contract for the RBS 70 in competition with other European and American missile systems. The Czech Republic will be the eighteenth nation to add the RBS 70 to its defence materiel.

The order is for the upgraded version of the RBS 70 with a night sight, aircraft identification and the new Bolide missile.

Deliveries will take place in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Saab is one of the world's leading high-technology companies, with its main operations focusing on defence, aviation and space. The group covers a broad spectrum of competence and capabilities in systems integration."

General Dynamics Awarded $267 Million Contract for Egyptian M1A1 Co- production Program

" STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. --- The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command has awarded General Dynamics Land Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics, a $267 million modification to a previously awarded contract to produce 125 M1A1 Abrams tank kits for the Egyptian tank co-production program.

Deliveries begin in 2005 and will continue through 2008.

In December 2003 the U.S. Army awarded General Dynamics an $8.4 million long-lead material contract to begin work on this increment, which increases the number of Egyptian co-production-built M1A1 tanks to 880 since the program's inception in 1992.

General Dynamics provides components for kits used in Egyptian M1A1 production.

Work will be performed in Lima, Ohio, Scranton, Pa., Muskegon, Mich., Tallahassee, Fla., Anniston, Ala., and Imperial Valley, Calif., by existing General Dynamics Land Systems employees.

General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia, employs approximately 71,600 people worldwide and anticipates 2004 revenue in excess of $19 billion. The company is a market leader in mission-critical information systems and technologies; land and expeditionary combat systems, armaments and munitions; shipbuilding and marine systems; and business aviation. "Bilant" for Russia

Rosoboronexport Arms Deliveries to Exceed $5 Billion in 2004

"The deliveries of military purpose goods of Russian key arms trader Rosoboronexport in 2004, like in 2003, will exceed $5 billion, Rosoboronexport Director General Sergei Chemezov told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"In the past few years Russian arms and military hardware exports have been steadily growing. In five years they doubled and in 2003 reached the record mark in post-Soviet times of $5.57 billion. In 2003-2004 Rosoboronexport was responsible for the lion's share of deliveries," Chemezov said after receiving the 2004 Russian Economy Leader award.

Rosoboronexport has signed contracts worth over $5.5 billion this year, he said. The company's stock of orders is currently estimated at over $12 billion. It includes all signed and validated contracts to be executed before 2007.

"Speaking about types of armament, the distribution is as follows: the Navy is the leader with about 50 percent of the total arms exports volume, the Air Force has 32 percent, and the Land Forces about 10 percent," Chemezov noted.

According to him, this pattern generally reflects the current demands of the present-day arms market. "We forecast further growth of demand in the Navy sector, because importing countries are expected to write off a large number of ships and boats in the next few years. Other types of armament will follow in this order: up-to-date planes and helicopters, UAVs, armor, missile and artillery armament, systems of communication, control and reconnaissance," Chemezov said.

The Rosoboronexport state-owned arms trading company is going to keep on winning international markets, the company's Director General Sergei Chemezov told Interfax-Military News Agency. "China and India remain priority importers of Russian defense products, and we will go on improving our strategic partnership with the two," he said.

Russia is on the top-five list of the world's best arms exporters with over 60 countries among its clients. The company has 43 representations abroad, operating on a constant basis, Chemezov said.

Rosoboronexport is going to open new offices abroad soon, namely in Belgium, Italy, Venezuela and Myanmar. "This will help us to expand our influence on world arms markets. We open representations in the countries that show direct interest in procurement of Russian weapons. Wherever we see such interest, we send our representative there immediately to establish relations with the Defense Ministry or other uniformed agencies, offering our technical and commercial projects and informing of the Russian armament and military hardware. As a result of such a constant dialogue, we usually gain orders. Some of our regional representations work with two or three countries, rather than with one only," he said.

He noted that the cooperation with Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam, which are regarded to be quite promising clients, has improved in the past few years, and moreover, there are positive tendencies observed in partnership with several countries from the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa. Owing to the centralized marketing effort, Latin America was included into the list of clients: the company cooperates with Mexico, and has contracts with Columbia, Uruguay and Peru. Also promising are the relations with Venezuela and Chile.

Rosoboronexport to have more involvement in management of defense industry enterprises

The Rosoboronexport state-owned arms trader's involvement in managing export-oriented enterprises will grow, Rosoboronexport Director General Sergei Chemezov said on Friday. "Support of any integration processes in the domestic defense industry is our strategic position," Chemezov told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Rosoboronexport is interested in being present in the boards of directors of large integrated companies and export-oriented holding companies, as well as in efficient participation in their management, he said.

Chemezov stressed that Rosoboronexport must be present in all large holding companies that are being set up in the defense industry. "We are already working in some of them. For instance, we are present in the board of directors of the Sukhoi aircraft holding company, Almaz-Antei air defense consortium, Tactical Missile Armament corporation, etc. What we need to have a real influence on the situation is to gain control of state-owned packages of shares," he said.

Chemezov noted that a helicopter-building holding company was established by President Vladimir Putin's decree in November with Rosoboronexport's active participation. "In the future, we are ready to take part in setting up a naval holding company," he said.

The director general stressed that timely intervention in the management of defense industry enterprises often helps preserve unique production facilities. "In particular, this is why we took part in settling the conflict between the MDM group and the Degtyarev plant management. As a result, 43 percent of shares, which were arrested, are being transferred to us. The conflict is now fully settled. There are grounds to believe that the Degtyarev plant will work at its full rate of operation from now on," Chemezov said. "

Now, Tom Clancy had some new ocasions to write some about possible scenario with India in first place. And editors of Carrier series... who use the name of the autor of the verry succesfull first part of this serie - Keith Douglas.

"On Decemder 26, 2004 Irkut Corporation completed delivery of the third phase Su-30MKI multifunctional fighters to the Indian Air Force. Thus, Irkut has fulfilled its commitments on the delivery contract signed with Indian Ministry of Defence in November 1996.

The Su-30MKI aircraft designed by Sukhoi Design Bureau possess unsurpassed performance and combat capabilities. Avionics suite of the aircraft includes the most advanced developments of avionics building companies from Russia, India, France, Israel and Great Britain. Integration of avionics was performed by Ramenskoe Design Bureau.

The Su-30MKI, as the first among production aircraft, is equipped with the AL-31FP thrust vector controlled engine designed by “Saturn” Research and Production Corporation. Series production of the Su-30MKI fighters was conducted by Irkutsk Aviation Plant of Irkut Corporation.

Developing cooperation with India, Irkut is presently implementing a contract for licensed production of the Su-30MKI by India based Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. That was signed in 2000. According to contract terms reaching to 2017, the Indian side is manufacturing the Su-30MKI including engines, aircraft systems and avionics. "
