As far as I know around 1942 the number of infantry battalions in each infantry regiment was reduced from three to two, but each division lost only two battalions. The 1942 infantry division would have three regiments of two battalions each and the seventh battalion which was a 'light infantry battalion' (Batalion Infanterie Uşoară).

At http://www.shef.ac.uk/mr-home/hobbies/rum42.txt you may find info that these battalions were 'supposed to be motorised'. The sourse says that such a battalion had the following structure:
QUOTE
Light Battalion:
  Cavalry Squadron (12xLMG)
  Three Light Companies (18xLMG, 2x60mm, 4xHMG, 1x47mmAT)

My question is how the Batalion Infanterie Uşoară was actually organised.

Thanks in advance for reply,
Petrus
