There are some photos in which we can see 2 "parallel", vertically overlapped, yellow and red stripes on the rear of the fuselage.
For example the "yellow 1" Hurricane of 53-th Squadron ( Escadrila 53) has 2 stripes, one yellow, the second probably red.
Such a photo can also be seen in the book "Romanian Aeronautics" from Modelism at page 36 bottom left.
There are also IAR-80s with such stripes.
The question is whether this additional stripes are by any chance a sign or mark indicating that the plain belongs to a squadron commander ?
This matter was brought to my attention by my friend Miroslaw Wawrzynski.

Dear sirs,

Another strange mark had the Bf 109 E-3 " Hai fetito!" of lt. Dicezare on the right wing. The roundel mark (used before mai 41) is overpainted by the King Michael's cross. The picture is at page no 17 (bottom) of the magazine AirMag - hors série no1 "les Messerschmitt Bf 109 roumains"

Trully yours,
B Miclescu

The reason for these double stripes is the changing of the markings prior to the Barbarosa action. Before the old marks consist of only one narrow strip ( red, yellow and probably blue, squad.indentification ) on the fuselage and on the wings. So probably in a hurry for front operation there were no time to clear ( or overpaint )these initial stripes. So if you made a model of one of these planes the narrow strip must be more weathered than the large yellow stripe (axis indentification) on the tail.

That particular plane was from the first batch of 40 Bf-109E received in 1940. The markings at that time were colors roundels.
After 1940 prior to operation Barbarose these old marks were overpainted with "Michael cross". Because of the heavy winter weather at Stalingrad and poor quality of the paint, the "Michael cross" simbols were partial erased.
