All the mentioned infantry regiments were part of different divisions. Are you sure the report isn't referring to a Hungarian division, as it says that it was positioned in front of the 7th Corps (opposite it)? Also, neither the cavalry regiments mentioned for the 1st Cavalry Division match any in the OoB of the Romanian 1st Cavalry Division for that period.

The 20th Infantry Division was destroyed in the aftermath of the Jassy-Kishinev Operation and did not take part in the operations against the Axis. Only the 20th Infantry-training Division did, but its actions ceased on 16 October.

At a second read, I cannot exclude the possibility that the mentioned units are actually Hungarian, not Rumanian. However, it's highly unusual for this combat report of the 1st Rumanian Army to list units without mentioning that they are not Rumanian. Even the allied Soviet units are marked as such. Therefore we should regard the info with a question mark.

QUOTE (Dénes @ Jan 1 2005, 10:05 PM)
A report made by the 1st Rumanian Army on 30 Oct. 1944 mentions the following:
"the 20th Infantry Division (incl. the 13th, 14th and 23rd Infantry Regiments), as well as the 1st Cavalry Division (incl. the 3rd and 4th Cavalry Regiments) are positioned between Keresztes tanya and Ujkecske [in Hungary], in front of the 7th Army Corps."

Unless it's a typo, the information is valid.

Gen. Dénes

I confirm that the report refers to the 20th Hungarian Infantry Division and 1st Hungarian Cavalry Division, which operated in the area of the 7th Romanian Corps.

Two sources confirm this:

1) "Armata Romana 1941-1945", RAI 1996, mentions the two Hungarian divisions on page 89.

2) A map in "Istoria artileriei romane", 1977, shows the 23th and 14th Infantry Regiments (as enemy) in front of the Romanian 7th Corps.

Checking the OOB for the Hungarian 20th Infantry and 1st Cavalry divisions may help too.
