Eldest ww2 romanian veteran in Sibiu

According to "Sibiu" newspaper, printed and distributed in Sibiu, III year, number 98, issued for the week 5-11 June 2010, at page 5, one article speaks about the eldest ww2 veteran from Sibiu from Romanian army. His name is Viorel Tănase, lt. col. ®, aged 102 at 24 May 2010.

He fought with Cavalry Corp on eastern front in Bessarabia and at Don's Bend in ww2, for 2 years, as "sublocotenent".

Post-ww2 communist regime from Romania sentenced him at forced labour for life. He executed 25 years of imprisonement in communist prisons, out of which 18 in forced labour camps.

Someone must take an interv.

I forget to tell that he is also the eldest man living in Sibiu city.

I just learned today about this guy and I left Sibiu for home. More, I need to find his adress or at least his phone number. As I dont live in Sibiu, maybe there is someone else around living in this city who might be willing to help taking an interview to this veteran. If none, as I said, maybe I'll do it, but it might take a couple of weeks until I'll travel again to Sibiu.

I'm sorry to say this, but are a very few who take this kind of initiative. A few months ago I said about armed anticomunist resistance, that Gavril Vatamaniuc stil lives in Suceava, and if it is somebody from there, to go and take an interview with him. The only response I get was from waltfw, who lives in USA, and he said he will visit Romania before Christmas, and he will try to do do this job, albeit he don't speak Romanian very well.
As usual, it must be somebody from outside who must do our job. If I'll have to go somethere in this area, I'll try to find mr. Vatamaniuc and speak to him.
So, 21 inf, when you go to Sibiu, find this man and take this interview.

Contras, I know what you mean. That's why I said "maybe" I'll take an interview to this veteran. "Maybe" and not "certanly", because I'm more and more sick about romanian commoner, who is rather a cow chewing hay in the stable than a normal human being.

Viorel Tanase paid his tribute to the Motherland in 1941 going to the front. I'll contribute by interviewing him on my own time and money expense. Until this point everything is ok. But I wonder to how many romanian commoner all this stuff will make a difference. Romanian commoner just repeats nowadays the same atitude as in 1848, 1877, 1916 and 1940. He lacks wisdome to learn from history his own mistakes or the good examples and refuses to move forward, if not for his sake, at least for the sake of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The same do a cow, as I mentioned above.

I'll interview this old man, I hope two weeks from now and I'll let you know the results.

21 inf, I agree with your statement, in many points. But if we don't do it, who else will do it? Nobody. No one else will do it. I spent my money and my time many times, just to catch some points of our history, and believe me, nobody care about it.
You know what I mean, just go there and record what this man has to say, and don't expect any gratitude. That's the way we preserve our history.

Yes, Contras, I understand you and you know that we spoke about this issue, I just got tired to see the nowadays Romanian society.

Of course I'll interview the man and I never expected gratitude or thanks and I'll never expect for it. I just feel like "We have to do this AGAIN?".

I agree with this statement. Many times, I also did not receive any gratitude for what I did (on my own time and money). Nevertheless, I did it and still do. And I am happy that I am still able to.

I took many interviws during the last 8 years.
Some were interesting some were pure imagination.
In many cases the person was senile and I just waisted my time.
But I can say that over 20 of them are very good parts of history.
I never complained about the time and money since it is my hobbie and pleasure.
In many cases,I became a good friends of the subjects,and we see each other in private.
You all have to understand that this is the "last train".
In today's society ,when to tape someon is no longer a problem,we all must get as many testimonies as possible.

Guys, hold your horses. I have the same ideas as you presented above. I dont complain about puting my money and my time on this. After all, I already proved that before, by my interviews published on this very site and by the fact that I started a reenactment group 3 years ago, which is very active.

I was just expresing my opinion regarding romanian society from our days. I didnt expected thanks or rewards, I'd just like to see at least on a 1/100.000 ratio that what I do and you guys do makes the diference and it really counts.

Being a "moţ", I never give up, but maybe I'm a little too tired to see "our fellow romanians" with their bad and incult habits all day long.

We agree, for some veterans is the last chance to record their testimonies. We must do it, and we will do it. But, the question is, in the future, will be someone interested about this? Because, today, I see there are very few who act. And are so many who can act, but they don't care...

Hello all of you.

I've just discovered this forum, and the information i find here is very precious.
Is something not presented in the oficial history books.
I understand there are moments in your activity that you find it hard to continue, you see that no one around is interested but....this is not for everybody...is for only a hand full of people, that find history very interesting.
I'm sure that besides the veteren from Sibiu, there are others, with interesting stories to tell.
If now, there is no interest, in 25-30 years, your work ill be highly apreaciated.

Keep up the good work!!! Your findings will make the next generation to be proud of their ancesters and of their heritage.
