The dramatic photo bellow depicts Alex Pokrishkin inspecting his last aerial (59) on the front. I was trying to identify the German aircraft ...can anyone identify it ?

Sveta Pokrishkin

Great picture!!!!
I think the german aircraft is a FW-189

Although I agree with regarding your acft ID becuase of the boom tail and special engine nacelles and prop shapes are these of FW-189 bellow are his air kills ID from Russian sources...it seems that the recon FW-189 was either brought down in group or was omitted from his roaster.

Hello! I revived this old topic because it is still not clear to me: Did Kozachenko shoot down Codrut or didn't he. And if not, then who did? Thanks in advance for any reply.

Kpt. Kozachenko of 249 IAP claimed a 'He 112' shot down on June 23, 1941. However, the distance between the location of his claim and the actual crash site of Adj. av. Codrut's He 112 is too big; therefore, the Soviet airman's claim is probably the result of a faulty aircraft type identification.

OK, but then the ARR did loose a He-112 that day. And Kozachenko did claim an enemy Aircraft shot down. Is it possible to clarify the circumstances under which Adj. av. Codrut was lost? What did his fellow pilots say about his attacker? And is it possible to identify Kozachenko's victim? Why would he identify the enemy plane as a He-112 (a rather obscure type) unless there was something really peculiar about that plane? And one last question: Is it possible that Kozachenko only damaged the plane of Codrut, and the Romanian crashed later at a different location?

Rumanian archival sources mention that Codrut's airplane was hit by Flak fire:
QUOTE
atins de proiectile AcA incendiare, doborit, parasutat la inamic.

However, the cause of an airplane's demise is not always described accurately, even in original documents, so hostile fire from enemy fighter(s) could not be ruled out.

Misindetification of enemy airplane types was a common occurence, on both sides. There were even "He 113s" claimed by Soviet pilots, throughout the war.

One possible explanation is that Kozachenko met a Bf 109F - type which was recently introduced on the Eastern Front - which had rounded wingtips, opposite to the square wingtips of a more common 'Emil', thus resembling the elliptical wing of the He 112B.
