Pokrishkin at 20 years WWII aniversary with Novikov and Trofimenko at the Kremlin( they all seems to be bitter about something) maybe converging opinions between Soviet Commander in Chief and them or just maybe a bad day for all

Yes is sometime difficult ...but I think you entangled the puzzle, is the British cross and nothing than the Bristish cross. An other things wonders me that despite the large number of aircrafts brought down by Kostyliev, unlike the Sovier VVS , Soviet Navy pilots with possible exception of Lt.Col. Safanov didnt get awarded twice or 3 times hero of the Soviet Union medal and order

On the bookcase behind him is an unmistakable copy of the Polish Pilot's Badge...the so called "Gapa" . It is a diving eagle with a little chain on top. Artur |

Pokryshkin is an interesting fellow. I was fortunate to read two of his books, one about the early part of the war and one about the later times.
He was quite fond of the Airacobra, despite its political incorectness and I believe at some point he insisted on flying it while the rest of his suqadron flew russian machines. He also got in trouble with authorities at one point and had quite a few adventrues as well. All this was written through the thick propaganda filter since the books came out in the sixties. I would love to read what he really thought, he or any other surviving russian aces. Are there any Engligh language books out there written from the "new" post communist perspective? Artur |
