Of course. Cpt. av. Ion Popescu-Oita was a famous bomber pilot, initially with the Savoia 79-equipped Gr. 2 bomb.
In late September 1941, he dropped the entire bombload on a huge Soviet ammo deposit near Odessa by sheer luck, as he only wanted to release all unnecessary load after being hit by Flak. The ammo depôt burned for several days... After the war, he became an airline pilot, first with TARS, then TAROM. |

Anyone know something about a pilot named Apostol Chirulescu? I saw a picture of him in a plane. In the picture i can see a head of a dog, painted on the airplane(maybe a "Pluto"...thats mean maybe the plane belongs to the 5-th fighter group). I can see also the romanian cross .
I want to know more about him because he is the uncle(the brother of his grandmother) of my girlfriend and i heard he is still alive( 80 and something years old). Now he is living in Bucharest. If you can give me some informations i'll be very greatfull. Also i heard a story from his sister about this pilot who recovered from an aircraft atacked by russian planes. He escape from his plane beiing shot down?(i dont know the reason, it may be a damage aircraft). |

OK,I found him and I'm still in shock   ,since he was not willing to meet me.(I'ts the first time it hapenes to me.)
I looked in the phone book, called him, presented myself, but the guy I belive lives in another world He woldn't tell me his birth place and date, but he started telling me thing from Stalingrad. I mentioned that I'm a friend of Dicezare, who was his CO,and he said they are good friends but stil wouldn't meet me... But Tommorow, some guys from TVR1 ,that he cannot tell their names ,are comiong to take him an interwiu..... And he also wrote a book and a publisher tried a few years ago to screw him,and he's going to publish the book soon by himself  And he doesn't want to remember the was but he has a victory over a Laag. I tried again and he said that he doesn't want his informations to get waisted?????? Every time he refused to see me but was starting telling things from the war. At that point I thought first that I lost my charm, but later I realized that or he want's to be begd or his not so coerent(personaly I hope It's the first) so I thanked him polite for his time and said bye. That's a vet that I'm sure I'm not going to meet :nope: p.s Those who know me,knows what that meens  |

C-2, try to tell him that there are no records of his air victory at all. Then he'll probably get upset and he'll hopefully tell you details of the victory, just to prove his point. Ask him if the victory is mentioned in his log book
So, was he member of Grupul 7 vânatoare? |

I'm not going to call him again :?
He said he wqs the last pilot to leave that airfield near Stalingrad(I can't remmember the name now)on a Savoia. It took me two months and tenths of phones to meet IDC,but that guy I DON"T want to meet. It's the second one after Decebal Constantinescu(who was willing to meet me but I understood on the phone, that we are going to talk about his blindness and not about aviation He also said that Popisteanu was shoot down near him. |
