If Galland leaved his Hs 123, I presume that another pilot took it, because it was not destroyed.
About Galland promotions: - 01.05.1934 - Unteroffizier - 01.09.1934 - Fähnrich - 01.01.1935 - Leutnant - 01.08.1937 - Oberleutnant - 01.10.1939 - Hauptmann - 18.07.1940 - Major - 01.11.1940 - Oberstleutnant - 04.12.1941 - Oberst - 01.12.1942 - Generalmajor - 01.11.1944 - Generalleutnant Here are some pictures of another member of the Condor Legion in Spain (source http://usuarios.lycos.es/mrvalverde/) Attached Image |

Barbosu , you did a great researching job, indeed the pilot in the middle is Leutnant Wick ( he was a Leutenent by than) and personally I would like to see a photo of Galland on HS-123 because I have his bio's and I couldnt even one photo of his sitting on a HS-123 but I confirm what other and Victor said he was SQD CO and he flew the HS 123 during Poland invasion.
Al Bellow an other photo of Wick ( 56 aerials ) Attached Image |

:-(
My research was in vain. Menapace wasn't between my RK holders photos (not East nor West Aces) They do look alike a lot, Wick and Menapace ! Though I think Denis is right because he was in a Hs 123 sqd. good for you Denis Here is a photo of him (source: http://www.ritterkreuztraeger-1939-45.de/L...pace-Josef.htm). Please the text about him. Barbosu |

It's him for sure because behind him you can see the same Hs 123 with same Mickey Mouse on it!!
The two photos were shot the same day!! Again, good job Denis. How, may I ask, did you find him? BEcause I tried to find a RK holder awarded in the same time Galland was on his Hs 123 or at least naer that period. And Wick was the perfect candidate and looks like the pilot in the photo. Menapace was awarded just in '42!! So Gallands plane flew all that time in south and midlle East or smthing like that? Maybe Alex or someone who speaks german could read his portret at the link I gave you in my previous post. About Galland: I read an interview with him and he sais about Hs 123 and Poland. I hate to repeat myself, BUT when you take an image from another website, post it using the [IMG] tags, NOT as an attachment. It isn't like I like editing your posts, as I have other things to do.
Also DO NOT post any image without mentioning the source. |

I found the following photo on the 'net: Source: http://www.geocities.com/herrvermylen/croatia1.jpg Now, are these pilots German or Croat? (Hint: check the badge pinned to the right pocket). Gen. Dénes This post has been edited by Dénes on January 18, 2005 04:22 pm |

Denes thanks for the photo, though I still dont think is the case , the pilots depicted are Luftwaffe pilots wearing the Croatian Ustasha Pilot Wings awarded to German pilots such as the Roumanian badge awarded to German pilots and vice versa, as a matter of fact I am working with my friends from JG54 and I will try to identify the decoration ceremonial depicted which maybe somewhere in Balkans too

Denes, the puzzle is solved , they told me that the Croatian Ustascha Pilots were wearing modified Luftwaffe uniforms whereby they had to wear Ustascha logo on the left sleeve of the tunic and additional Croatian markings ....especially their detachment in Mariopol were wearing Luftwaffe uniforms.....well that solves the puzzle
Thanks working into the subject Alex |
