What was the ultimate fate of MARSUINUL?
According to some sources she was returned to Romania and scrapped. According to others she was broken up by the Soviets themselves. TIA. |

According to Modelism's Romanian Navy in World War II, NMS MARSUINUL was seized by the Soviets on 5 September 1944 and never returned.

28.02.1945 in Poti has happened an accident during an unloading of Marsuinul - explosion of torpedo. 14 men were killed. Submarine was badly damaged. I think she was utilized.

According to this site: http://warships.web4u.cz/ships.php?languag...find=A&stat=RUM it was lost on 28 November 1950. Was the TS-2 repaired after the accident in February 1945?

I have found an interesting article about the seizing of Romanian ships by the Soviets, related by an officer on Marsuinul, in August-September 1944 at Constanta. Here are some excerpts:

All romanian submarines in Sov.Ch.F. first were named TS... ( Trofeinaya Sredniaya (podvodnaya lodka)) - Trophy Medium (size) Sub.
Marsuinul - raised 28.2.45, towed at Sevastopol but never repaired (too expense). |

On Feb. 20th, 1945 on port of Poti, at attempt of extraction of a german torpedo „G7a” from torpedo tube, there was an explosion in charging area. According to the accident investigating Commission, the explosion was generate by torpedo falling from a longitudinal torpedo beam. The torpedo has turned 90 degrees in a vertical plane and has hit his detonator. As a result of explosion 14 persons were lost, and the boat in spite of the fact that was in port, in 65 minutes has sunk, as because of confusion of staff, the struggle for survivability was not conducted. In eight days „ТС-2” was lifted from depth of 6 metres by Fleet Salvage and Rescue Service, towed off to Sevastopol for regenerative repair. The lost crewmen are buried on a city cemetery in Poti. „ТС-2” was under command of Cpt.3rd rank A.S.Alinovski, who was send to military court.
This Sub. has not been repaired. On Aug.04 1947, renamed "N-40", then on Jun.06 1949 "S-40". On Nov.28 1950 erased from scripts as not repairable, and on Dec.08 1950 send to deletion. This post has been edited by Petre on August 15, 2009 02:25 pm |
