Favorite Pilot ?

My choice:

Eastern Front: Ion Milu, Vasile Cotoi, Clemente Mureşan.

Home Defence, anit-USAAF: Dan Valentin Vizante, Ion Bârlãdeanu, Dumitru Encioiu (followed closely by Alexander Şerbãnescu).

Anti Axis campaign: Lucian Toma, Octavian Ciutac, Vasile Mirilã.

PS: I think Milu was one of the best pilots and aerobatics in world wide.

It looks he wear a German Luftwaffe Front Klasp in Gold or Silver ..I havent seen many Roumanian pilots wearing this......since I cant see it clear , can you tell the class and status of the clasp?

Col.Robert Johnson " Bob " ARMY AIR FORCE Nr 1 ace on the European theather on WWII was for me an all times fighter pilot and ace profile . With 27 confirmed air kills on P-47 Col.Bob Johnson ( US pilots were stationed on rotation basis duties, thats why US pilots air kills ratio was lower than German, Roumanian , Russians) brought down several Luftwaffe experts and continued to be a fighter pilot and instruct long after WWII

I met him twice at Confederate Air Force and he passed away last year......Fare well Bob !

I am a bit surprised that those who listed Rumanian pilots as their favourites did no mention 'Bâzu' Cantacuzino, the pre-war aerobatics champion of Rumania and top scoring ARR ace! In my eyes, he's No. 1 (in Rumania).

I subscribe also for Cantacuzino ( everybody knows that ).
But I like also Dobran ( as a realistic pilot )

The topic is 'favourite pilot', not 'favourite fighter pilot', so I think one should count the particular airman's piloting skills as well, not only the final 'kill' score.

Maresale, let me ask you: why did you choose Cpt. av. Lucian Toma as the first one in your anti-Axis ARR pilots' list?

As group commander, he not only arrived late on the front, but immediately took off for an unauthorized, and not vital, free hunting mission without first checking properly the new battlefield, then closed in too much to a Luftwaffe Ju 188, got shot down by the rear gunner and killed.

To mee, all these errors point to a rather weak performance as both a fighter pilot and commanding officer.
