Hello,
I whant to know if anybody can send me a photo or a pic or any description about the Romanian Stuart tanks.
I've read that the Romanian army captured some of them during the battles in the Soviet Union. I would like to make a kit model about it, but i haven't any iniformation about the colour, markings, tank crew uniforms and equipment. Also it woudl be interesting if they were used as tanks or artillery tractors.

Thanks in advance

Jordi

No Stuart tank was used by Romanian Army according to my knowledge, nor as tank neither as tractor. Most of the Soviet armor captured and salvaged by Romanian Army came from 1941-42, before the lend-leased tanks did appear.

They were captured in 1943 in the Kuban and only used for training pioneers in AT warfare, as far as I know. One things is for sure. They did not serve in the Romanian army.

A number of M3L (Soviet designation for Stuart) tanks were used against Romanian troops in the amphibious operation of Ozereyka on 4 February 1943:

According with the Soviet report, all of them were rendered unserviceable, most of them blown up by their crews. Even if some of them could have been repaired with parts salvaged from other tanks, there was no ammunition left for their main guns.

Thanks everybody for your answers.

Now the question woulb if And other soviet tanks, for exemple, the T-60 wa used?

If i'm not wrong several T-60 were converted in the TACAM antiatnk gun, but i ask me if the romanian army used the T-60 without improvements, only with the romaan markings?
Of course i would like to know, and see, what gereman tanks or halftracks were used.
I ask it becuse i've seen some kits, as the Tacam 2, that could be used as a romanian tank, but their quallite is very bad, and really expensive.

Thanks again and best regards from Barcelona

During the Soviet 47th Army assault on Novorossiisk which started on Feb. 4 1943, 21 Stuart tanks were captured by the 10th Romanian Division. The tanks were intact, as they were still on their landing barges.

These tanks were used for coastal protection, albeit briefly, by two mechanized squadrons of the Cavalry Corps. Apparently, they were used until they broke down and could not be repaired due to the lack of spare parts.

No, the T-60s were used only transformed into the TACAM T-60.

This is a Lend-Lease tank in Soviet markings, knocked out by Rumanian AT gunners (photo SMP).

The SMP text doesn't give any additional clues. Sorry.

From eBay. The legend reads: "Soviet tank destroyed in front of the Romanian lines/S.M.P.-Azamfirei Gh.".

Here is a copy of the photo (from eBay). Maybe you can use the numbers in the legend to find out more.
