Do you have any ideas about the possible time frame for the kit's release?
Artur

Because the company who will build them is from Ploesti, and i need to supervise the work, i just wait for sunny days to organize trips to factory place.
I hope at the end of spring the kit should be available.

Dan.

Artur and all. I have some romanian friends who like to start to build theyr Liberator kits for TW and want some advice what kind of colors were used to paint sand and green cammo. That means what companies (Humbroll,Revell,Tamya) and what is the number of the paint. Because some of you allready made Liberators Kits please share with us the tips for painting them.

Well, I am not a Liberator expert and only built one in the past. I like to play in 1/48 scale so the only available kits are of course the Revell/Monogram kits with the "D" version of the glazed nose.
Before any project is started I would highly reccomend on finding a picture of the particular plane you want to make, ideally that picture should be in color. Somewhere on this forum I found a wonderful picture of Jerk's Neutral which landed in Sicyly after TW.
First maybe blow up the picture and look at the hundreds of interesting details on it.
Did you notice how uneven and faded the Olive drab paint is?
How about the yellow "Torch Ring" painted out with black?
Look at the fading and chipping of paint around the bomb doors...isn't it neat?
For me the biggest challenge is to try and replicate how the plane looked at the time of the mission or just after, not when it was built at the factory and was "perfect".
For example, how do you try for the fading effect?
I would do this, first I would spray thin, black lines on all the panel lines,
Then I would apply a thin coat of Olive Drab overall so that the black lines would show through.
Then I would take the "base" tint of OD and gradually take a little bit into your paint cup and add a few drops of white to gradually whiten it out. I would gently apply some of it on the tops of the wings and the top of the fuselage. The idea is that the tops are always in the sun, whereas the sides at least for part of the day would be in the shade. Of course make sure that it is not done in a regular manner...kind of haphazardly here and there.....just like on the picture.
Since the panel lines on this kit are raised you would not really be able to apply wash into the panel lines but would have to consider gently drybrushing them with a brush in order to "pick them out" of the background...
Artur
Tomorrow another section on oily streaks from engines...

Oh and one more crucial detail. Did you notice on the picture how faded the background of the star is?
One thing is for sure...you can never get that detail from a decal...
for this you would have to cut out a star and a circle.
Stick the circle onto a painted model, airbrush the area white...and then once dry the next day put on the star mask. Then I would take some middle blue tone paint and brush it on with a thin brush. Some of it I would apply thick and some very thinned down to give that effect of unveven coverage and fading.
Did you notice how the various "arms" of the star seem to be painted around?
Also notice how the blue of the fin flash on the tail is visibly darker then the faded star on the fuselage.
To summarize, what will make your model stand apart from others is how true it is to your documentation, how much you can personalize it and add it "character".
For me that's what modeling is all about

That's Great!, Dan
I am still finishing my "Messerschmitt project" of which two will be shown on this very forum, one in this thread as it is an aircraft used during Tidal Wave, and the other in "Bazu" thread.
That should take less then a week ( I just have the canopies, the undercarriage and the props left ) and then I start on my two Liberators!
What do you think about interior colors?

Okey, the first model is ready. My inspiration for it was this picture and a kind email reply from the son of the famous Bulgarian Ace, Stoyan Stoyanov.
To all I reccomend this webpage to read
http://odin.prohosting.com/~vstoyano/Fight...WW2Stoyanov.htm
it is maintained and edited by his son Vesselin Stoyanov and he was kind enough to share with me some of the profiles of the planes that became an inspiration for my project. Here, first is a picture, supposedly taken right after TW interception mission in which Stoyanov accounted for two shot down Liberators. It clearly shows that the aircraft is a G2 and has a distinct yellow cowling.

And here are the profiles supplied to me by Mr. Stoyanov's son. I do not know their origin, but they are the only ones that show Bulgarian 109's from the TW era. By 1943 the Bulgarians flew G2's but they still retained their yellow cowlings such as used on the Emils in 1941 and 1942.
The description on the first machine "Green 28" says it is from the beginning of 1943 and the second one from August 1943, yet I was strongly influenced by that picture in the previous post so the middle machine just did not fit. After his victories it is likely that Stoyanov was promoted and was assigned a new aircraft such as the G6's later depicted. His battles against TW Liberators, however, were more likely then not fought in a machine just such as the first profile.

yes...of course the middle one is a G2 not a G6...it has no bubbles :-)
And finally here is a few pictures of my humble effort at recreating the machine flown by Stoyanov during his TW action on August 1 1943.
