The member of the bomber crew, owner of the icon, may belong to various backgrounds.
His family could be American immigrants from:
-Rusia
-Greece
-Romania
-Serbia
-Bulgaria
-Turkey, Egypt etc. (Christians fled from a Muslim country, like the surviving Armenians)

Below is an interesting photo montage made by a German PK unit in 1942.

Of interest is the wartime official crest of Rumania, which I haven't seen so far, and the country's borders to the East, apparently incorporating Trans-Dnestra as well.

The Germans made an error, which suggests an unofficial item. The crest they used was the shield in the old coat-of-arms of Romania from 1872. During WWII the 1921 coat-of-arms had been used.

Both are in Arges county, Romania.

Hope that helps you. smile.gif
