My opinion : if were changed, the british did it ( romanian request ??) but i am waiting the answer from Aleks about that 12 yugo received with metal wing. Could this also resolve our issue. Dan. |

Yes Denes, but i was not so interested in ex.Yugo Hurricanes ( fabric wings) in rom. service because of missing corect data and photo for them. I allways made models of rom. Hurricanes from the 12 british batch (metal wings). Dan. This post has been edited by Cantacuzino on February 22, 2005 04:39 pm |

Hi Dan,
Yugoslav machines in ARR were numbered 13, 14 and 15, correct? If photo ever appears, please let me know. I hope that I’m not asking too much. I need it for my book. That’s the reason. I already asked the same question, does anyone know Yugoslav serials for those three Hurricanes sold to Romania. Anyway, serials for second batch of 12 British machines sold to VVKJ were: ser.no 2313 up to ser.no 2324. Cheers, Aleks PS Anything about VVKJ Blenheims? Could you recommend someone to help me? I’m already desparate. My e-mail is: royalprm@eunet.yu |

Now that the issue of the ARR Hurricanes' wings is (for now) settled - until further info surfaces - let's see the situation with the number of MGs equipping these Hurricanes.
Below is a scan of a Rumanian document listing the armament of the Hurricanes in 1942 (thus, I assume, incl. the ex-Yugoslav Hurricanes, too). I am still looking for the source, which says that only 6 MGs were equipping the Rumanian Hurricanes. Any hints? Gen. Dénes Attached Image |

Probably you will never find that source, mayby was only field conversion that means mechanics had to solve themselves the lack of spares for Brownings machine guns and not necesary wayting for official written order. Also photo could be used for that issue not only official documents wich not allways match the real situation on the field. (remember british report source for all exported Hurricanes with fabric wings wich was not 100% true). Dan. BTW. did you find an official report that rumanian Hurricanes had spare parts for Rolls Royce engines from Vosper boats. This post has been edited by Cantacuzino on February 23, 2005 12:34 pm |

You mean, below it's only a piece of a supposed romanian document because i can not see the title and data ( is so secret ?) and the coll. seal copyright is useless (Everybody knows that the standard arming for british build Hurricane MkI was 8 Browning machineguns). The Hurricanes were taken sometime during the war by ARR out of service as the Soviets were flying the same equipment and in order to preclude confussions at the Germans and Axis side .Repeated friendly A/A fire was directed at ARR Hurricanes during their short war service with ARR.....for further reference of the topic I wana post some photos .....
The photo depicts Flt Lt Jack Ross of RAF SQd 134 in October 1941 bringing the Hurricane to the Russian friends seen unbuckling his parachute straps....he was gone MIA in due course of WWII from Soviet Aces of WWII Attached Image |

The 26th GV IAP was equipped with Spits MK-9 for defensive Leningrad duties also with the Hurricanes, in due course of the war the Hurricanes were transffered to the Soviet Navy Baltic Fleet and by May 1945 they have operated some 940 Spits MK-9 only.

The Hurricane IIB bellow was the aircraft in which Maj Gen A.A.Kuznetzov CO of the Northern Naval Air Fleet become the first Soviet pilot to fly the Hawker Hurricane on Sept 1941. Following his sortie he was presented with the aircraft by the RAF 151 Wing which has marked the Hurricane as token of appreciation to Kuznetzov with the Nr 01 as well as full VVS red star markings

What do you mean by this? Isn't it obvious to you that it's written in Rumanian? Or do you think it's not a real document and I just made it up? The scan is part of a document called "Situatia armarii avioanelor" and it's dated July 1942. I posted the part of this document relevant to our discussion. Cantacuzino, you shouldn't question my honesty. No-one else did... As for the source I placed over the document's scan, leave it up to me to decide if I want to use it or not. You may not be aware yet, but on the internet things are being copied frequently, without permission and without the source being mentioned (we had the same situation here, too). Gen.
