I don't know if non-Rumanian monuments erected on the current territory of Rumania qualify for this thread.
Anyhow, I post one such statue and if there is interest, I can post some more. The statue of Lajos Kossuth, prominent Hungarian leader of the 1848/1848 Revolution, was erected in what is currently Tg. Mures (back then, it was known as Marosvásárhely, in Hungarian, or Neumarkt, in German), on May 23, 1899. Kossuth was the first citizen of honour of the city. The statue was demolished by the new Rumanian authorities on March 28, 1919. In the same location a Rumanian Orthodox church has been erected. The bronze scrap material was used to cast several eagles adorning various Rumanian monuments. Gen. Dénes Attached Image |

Interesting topic. If we could ad the story of each monument gone - like Carol did - it would be better. I hope I'll contribute.

What do you mean by non-Romanian monuments? Made by a non-Romanian artist? The Bucharest statue of king Carol I would then qualify as a non-Romanian monument being made by the Croat Ivan Mestrovic. Still its place is on this thread as being a monument which existed in one pre-WWII city of Romania. So, welcome to the topic. |
