I wonder if someone finds the statue of gen. Stan Poetas, killed by the Bolcheviks at Atachi, near Hotin. It was destroyed by the Soviet Army in 1940 when retaking Bessarabia and northern Bukowina (the latter never theirs).

Another view of the Arpad Monument, from the opposite side. The lightning conductor rod can be seen running down the right of the column, encased in a conduit at the base.
A postcard showing the ruined base of the Arpad Monument. The card is undated but has stamps of King Ferdinand and a postmark that is slightly indistinct but looks like 1924. |

Two more old postcards showing the Carol I monument in Craiova commemorating independence in 1878. The monument was located in Parcul Romanescu (previously Parcul Poporului and Parc Bibescu). It was destroyed in 1948 (1). The inauguration of the monument in 1912 was marked by this 33 mm diameter medal, designed by Menachem Carniol Jr. (2). Contras, do you have a copy free photo about this monument, to be put on the article from Enciclopedia Romaniei? If you do, please sent it to my email. Thanks! I heard (unnoficially) from ome historians that this statue was destroyed nou in 1940, but in 1944. In 1940 was used to chain the "antibolshevik" Romanians. Some people said that it is a project to be rebuilded near Atachi, where it was. |
