In Romanian armata = army can designate the entire types of units - land, naval and air. "Armata" can stand for armed forces. the english/american meaning for army (land units) would be in Romanian "fortele terestre" (= land forces) or "trupele de uscat" (aprox. land troops). The later is surely more accurate for that time frame. I've seen on several sites FARR (Fortele Aeriene Regale Romane) but I don't think for the armed forces as a whole the "royal" was used oficially. Romania was a kingdom and the king was the head of state and chief of the army so the "royal" was somehow implied.

NMS translated means HMS=His/Her Majesties' Ship (just like in the Royal Navy).
