I have four award certificates (that belonged to my grand-grandfather, military priest Ilie Deleanu):
- Rasplata muncii pentru biserica Cl. 1 (Medal for church labor, 1st class), 1921, signed by Octavian Goga - WW1 Victory medal, 1923 - Order of the Crown, Knight, 1928, signed by I.G. Duca - Medal of cultural merit, 2nd class, 1941, signed by king Mihai I can post photos of any of them if anybody is interested. |

I think it would be interesting to see the scans of all of them. |

Septi, this certificate is very interesting. If I understand right, your grandfather was awarded the order in 1943, when he was prisoner in a Soviet camp.
When did he receive the actual order? Was it the 1943 model, or the 1944-type Michael the Brave Order with swords? |

Unfortunately I cannot ask my grandfather as he passed away in May 2005. As far as I recall he was reportedly buried (in absentia) as his family was told he is dead (nobody knew he was taken prisoner after the Stalingrad battle). I suspect he received the Order when he came back from the soviet gulags (after Romania allied with the soviets).
I know the Order was the class III one. I'm not sure if it was with spades or not. The decoration itself (the metallic insignia) was confiscated from him later on by the communists. He managed to hide the actual decoration (the paper you see posted above) under a framed picture in his room (see it here: http://www.thelightcone.com/teodor/picture02.html ). He kept it hidden there for many years. After the Romanian revolution he was given another insignia http://www.thelightcone.com/teodor/images/uniforma1.jpg along with the white cape. I'll put images with him wearing the cape as well on the forum of "Photos of Michael the Brave Order Romanian holders". Septimiu This post has been edited by septi on January 13, 2007 04:15 am |

Dragos, the photo below shows him clearly wearing the Order of Michael the Brave, not the Order of Michael the Brave with Swords. Originally posted in Photos of Michael the Brave Order Romanian holders |
