the "modernisation" of Croat Mig21 was not the same as Lancer program. What was upgraded where the radios, some navigation equipment, NATO compatible IFF and that it is. No new Radar or Weapon System or new RWR.

The kits suplied by Israel can be usually assambled by factories that mantain the Mig21's. Until now Israel modernised more planes than Russian upgrade which was sold only to India.

Croatia, Romania and MiG-21 from other coutrys? Or just ROmania and Croatia?

I read in some places about MiG-23 modernisation variant by Russia. Were implemented, or waz just on paper? MiG-27 was modernized? Anyone knows something about India's MiG-27? I think they had much chances then Russia to make up-grades to MiG-27...

I think Cambodia, Bangladesh could be more.
From what I read the Upgrade is a universal one and can be aply to other planes (F-5, Mirage 3)

This is one of the best available sites about Mig 21 http://www.mig-21.de/English/
sometimes the info is not accurate ..

Nice job! Elbit can make a lot of money with that package of up-grades! Tomorrow a deal with China, and a lot of money can came like rain drops for a while, then chinese engineers cand do some reverse technology and offer to Pakistans, Iran, and other countrys a Chinese named package of up-grades, originally & "Made in China"... biggrin.gif in that time, we will see chinese "J"'s (eqivallents and originate from MiG-21) fighter fleet up-graded..

Nyone knows how fast climbs LanceR at sea level? Or, maximum sustained turn rate at 1,000m altitude ? Or, how many fuel can have internally? How trust can do the engine?

I need this info for comparing LanceR with chinese planes.

Well that was not changed by the upgrades. Unless somehow its weight increased or the fueld tanks where reduced. Basicaly that part should be the same Mig 21MF as before upgrade.

The famous (read ubiquitous) Mig-21 Lancer, the fighter plane found today in RoAF celebrates today 10 years from its maiden flight .Starting with April 2004 (my note here : I am not quite sure about this date),this kind of airfplanes are used in the service of aerial police within the NATO integrated defense system. Mig-21 Lancer pilots has the capability of discovering the target by itself (!!!) beyond the visual range, identify it (!!!) and to take the decision in using the adequate ordinance. It can be used (airplane) any any meteo conditions, day and night and it has the capability of inflight mission change. In the 10 years since they were in the service of RoAF,Mig 21 Lancer had 25000 flight hours in about 37000 missions in Romanian airspace and abroad.Up to this date, 8 aircrafts of this type were crashing during routine exercise within Romania's borders. The investigations shown that,in all these cases, accident has human error at origins.

----

Pretty lame article (if you ask me),but what can one expect from today's Romanians journalists?Maybe to send all of them reporting news in Iraq.

Romania joined NATO on 29 March 2004, hence April 2004 is an appropriate date in relation to participation to the NATO integrated defence system.

I am not saying that the date is not correct.I am not quite sure that police missions within NATO system didn't happenede before. Once again,I am not contesting the date but that does not mean I approve it.

Thanks for the translation. I've always liked the Lancer, one hell of a mean plane. And can fire both eastern and western weapons systems right?

I understand. On the other hand I do not know if collaborations with NATO before joining could be described as actions within the NATO system. However, these are only details.
