Dear forumites,
I know I am not in topic but since you have helped so much I'd dare to make another question. On a huge book about Russian aviation in WWI http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/096...9016244-9828962 I found a picture and a three views plate of a nice Nieuport with almost French roundels and a horseman personal insigna. It is a Nieuport 21 according to the picture dida, a 23 according to the plate. The pilot is Kibanov, unit unknown. He has been shot down october 11, 1917 according to the picture dida (the plate dates the color scheme December 1917 - any problem with Russian calendar, maybe?). Familyman on TheAerodrome told me that Geust & Petrov: Red Stars 3 (Apali, 1999) has a photo of this Nieuport too. It's still in one piece and a pilot (Kibanov?) standin in front of it. It appears to be a Nieuport 23. It has French roundels and French type tricolor on the rudder. Sayz in the picture text: 'Nieuport 23 of the Russian pilot Kibanov, 22 KAO, 3 BAG. Kibanov was shot down near Minsk 11 October 1917' Anybody know anything about Klibanov? I need mainly his first name and rank (hopefully in Russian - western alphabet). Bye and thanks, Andrea Attached Image |

From The Erodrome:
Hello Andrea, the Russian pilot in question is Praporshchik P.I. Krisanov (military pilot) of the 2nd KAO (Korps Aviation Otryad = detachment). he was on a Nieuport XXIII and was shot down on 26 September 1917 (western style calendar) in combat with two enemy aircraft. he fell near Glukhovskiy forest (Gusyatin area) in enemy territory and died of injuries on the 27th. during the action he shared a victory with Praporshchik E.K. Leman of the 19th KAO. the 2nd, 4th and 19th KAO's were units within the 1st Battle Air Group which served with the 7th Army on the Southwest Front. P.I. Krisanov had received the St. George Medal 4th Class on on 14 June 1916 (n.s.) numbers of Nieuport fighters received from France still carried their French markings when they arrived in Russian units at the front. please correct the name of Krisanov in your records. hope this helps you. agblume |
