AAR Dive Bomber Units

Soldat Group: Members Posts: 9 Member No.: 570 Joined: April 19, 2005	Could someone tell me what was the correct abbreviation for ARR Dive Bomber Units. Was it bopi or picaj? ie Grupul 3 bopi or Grupul 3 picaj Andy Fletcher

Admin Group: Admin Posts: 4350 Member No.: 3 Joined: February 11, 2003	In the ARR (Aeronautica Regala Romana) there were two kind of designations for dive bombers units, depending on the aircraft that the respective units the were operating. Bopi (short for Bombardament in picaj) was usually used for units equipped with IAR-81s operating as dive-bombers, like the 6th Fighter Group in the 1942 campaign or the 45th Fighter Squadron in the summer of 1944. For the two groups equipped with Ju-87Ds, the term Picaj (Grupul 3 Picaj, Grupul 6 Picaj)was used more often.
