I have seen good Romanian books on Romanian battles in the Crimea and at Stalingrad.
However, I have not seen anything about Romanian actions during the Battle of Iasi-Chisinau in August 1944. Can anyone recommend a good book on the subject? Cheers, Sid. P.S. Also, is there anything particularly good on Odessa in 1941 and the Caucasus in 1942/3? |

Try Klaus Schonherr "Luptele Wemachtului in Romania", Ed. Militara, 2004. It's written by a German but it's out only in Romanian. The author used German and Romanian documents from the military archives and the book contains many new informations about the Romanian army in this battle.

Hi Dragos,
Thanks. I have found reference to the Schonherr book on the internet, but I haven't been able to find a copy for sale. Do you know if it is still available in Romania? Cheers, Sid. |

I'd be extremely interested in this book myself. I'll try to find it also. If any of us finds a way to buy it, please post the info on this thread. I'll do the same.

I got my copy, a couple months ago from Eminescu bookstore (the one in the underground, not the one at street level), but I have been lately searching for it to buy one copy for Denes, without success, unfortunately. However, the book doesn't give too many details on the Romanian army.

This link is not about a Romanian book, but I did not want to start a new topic:

I bought this book (quite expensive), but it was somewhat a disappointment for me, as it does not discuss military matters, but rather political and strategic ones. Gen. Dénes |

I can understand the feeling... I bought an expensive book self-described on front cover as "the most comprehensive power reference before, during, and after the PE exam". On the back cover: "the Power Reference Manual will serve as an invaluable reference for your daily power electrical engineering needs". If I would be asked to describe it in one word: useless. If I would be allowed two words: almost useless. * * * To my excuse, there were no better options available. I am not happy with that book, but the only option would be to write another one myself. Maybe that was one of the reasons when you had decided to start writing aviation history books, many years ago. This post has been edited by Florin on October 30, 2012 03:32 am |
