Okeydokey the gentelmen in question is Cdr. Munteanu (probably the one mentioned by you), bomber pilot on He-111 and Savoias JRS-79 during WW2. 90 years old and a funny man to talk to.

I'm supposed to visit him again in the following weeks for a photo shoot and maybe some questions...

I've found great images of Serbanescu and his unit, and would like to share them.
The full article is long, and would be difficult to translate - but sounds interesting. http://www.virtualarad.net/orizont_aviatic...1/articol_1.htm

It reads the "last two are struggling with a stomach that is not quite ready yet."

[i might be wrong, but the crosses on top of the picture indicate that men died in combat, during WW2. This makes sense, both Vinca and Serbanescu have crosses, and they both fell during the war.]

?????? what is this ?

I need to know more about this post.

Bendas is a first name?

Does anyone have any more information on Bendas named people in Romania? Or at least this information posted, and/or where can I get the photo(it's gone).

Do you know what his first name would be by any chance?

I'm of the Bendas family, and apparently there were family members in this region during the wars. I have however lost all contact with them and my family is not even sure of our race completely except that we are most likely Russians.

However, a Bendas fighting for the Royal Romanian force? Wouldn't they be fighting against Russians?

I wonder why a Bendas would do that.

Yes, he was Slt. av. Constantin Bendas, fighter pilot on Messerschmitt Bf 109Gs.
He did serve briefly on the Eastern Front, in 1943, then in home defense, also briefly, in 1944.

He fought against the Soviets, because he was a Rumanian soldier and did his duty.
