Alba -Iulia.
An ancient city from Roman times if I'm not wrong. The Romanian unification is celebrated there. |

Alba is a county in Transylvania. Alba-Iulia is the capital of that county. |

I can't be sure on this one. According to my sources, the Jendarmes were organized on eight inspectorates (nine after November 1941), and these inspectorates were organized on legions, sectors, sections and posts. The inspectorate of Alba County was named just Inspectoratul Alba, so the 'Alba-I' may be the I Legion of Alba Inspectorate. The inspectorates were named after counties (ie Alba), not after towns (Alba-Iulia). |

I didn't know that. Thanks. In the beginning I thought that the tag refers to the county, as it made more sense. But then I noticed the "I" and thought it a short form of the name of the town. |

It might be a problem with the dog tags found on different sites. It’s not very moral to take or trade these artifacts.
In most countries digging and removing such identification devices from the possible grave of an unknown soldier are forbidden because it hinders the efforts to discover the missing soldiers’ remains. As for any archaeological investigation, taking the artifact from its place means to loose the item’s context, so to diminish with about 50% its significance. More than any other military relic, the discovery of an identification badge, somewhere in the ground, must be immediately transmitted to the qualified authorities. Maybe the tomb of a missing soldier waits for revealing. It might belong to one of the 71,000 Romanian soldiers killed in action on the Eastern Front in 1941-1944. |
