I got some mixed up informations about this squadron. As far as I know, Esc 52 was formed in 1942 and was assigned with "paza litoralui" (guarding romanian sea-side), some of the pilots assigned to that squadron: Pop Horea, Ion Galea, ?Horia Agarici?.In spring/summer 1943 they started to make the transition from IAR-80 to Bf109 at Mizil. Now, as I knew Esc52 made the transition to Bf109-E type and not G, but I found two sources which indicate G series, actually one of them is a book called "Escadrila 52 Vanatoare" which wasn't intented to be a historical book, the other source is this website which says that Gr 9 Vt was reequiped with Bf109-G, no mention about Esc52.

I was wondering if the admins of the website would like to put more precise data in it, I would be very happy to help with what I can.

Sorry - I made a mistake, after re-reading several times from the Esc52 book I realized the G's they were talking about were not Esc52's planes but other ones stationed at Mizil. It says indeed that Esc52 was equiped with Bf109-E.

A small correction though. Escadrila 52 was formed in 1940, not 1942, and was initially equipped with He-112Bs as part of the 5th Fighter Group. During the 1941 campaign, after suffering many losses in gorund attacks it was united with the 42nd Squadron and was equipped with IAR-80s.

Rgr, thanks Victor - what I meant was Esc 52 became operational with Gr 9 Vt in 1942, too many thoughts at same time :]

Any history on Esc 42/52 ? The only place where I read about it was in Dan Antoniu and G. Cicos's book about IAR-80.I am actually interested on Esc52 1941 campaign.

The coverage of the 1941 activity of the He 112B-equipped Esc. 52 vân. is included in my book on the Heinkel He 112, published by Squadron/Signal. If you don't have access to it, I'll let you know the basic details.

I also mentioned (briefly) Esc. 42/52 vân. in both my Squadron He 112 and Osprey Rumanian Aces books.

Alternatively, one of the last issues of the now defunct Aeronautica magazine (No. 9?) was dedicated to the He 112. You can find details on Esc. 52 vân.'s 1941 activity also in it.
