One Hurricane was lost prior to the war, another one was shot down by Soviet fighters in Sept. 1941, a third one was destroyed on ground when Soviet fighters strafed the front airfield later in the same month, and a fourth one was flown to Turkey by a defector. The rest were written off while serving as trainers.

BTW, altogether there were 15 Hurricanes in ARR (not AAR) service (12 British and 3 ex-Yugoslav).

Hello Dènes,

thanks for info.
Sorry for my typing error.
Have you any details for the losses ( serial, Pilot, date and cause)?

Hi
much more infor about Rumanian Hurricanes you mey see/find in my book Hurricanes in Foreign Service (Belgian, Finnish, Yugoslavia, Germany, Italy, Rumania, Soviet Union users). She was printed in 2001 in Poland.
Polish title: Huricane w obcej służbie. There is a strong English sumary, which is telling more about ARR Hurricanes in comabt (Constanca + Odessa). There are corrose-checked some data with Soviet side.

So far there is the first book, which telling in such scope about comabt use of Hurricanes in Foreign Service (including Rumanian chapter). After 4 years some others details/corrections/news have surfaced, but not so many.

Book has 72 pages, on glossy paper, size A-4, many photos + color drawings, text mainly in Polish + 6 full pages of English sumary.

Frankly I have not yet seen any text in English about this isses, which I can compare and can say that the second one is better, deeper ect..

Here is some information on the Hurricane loss that occurred before the war. It is stated that the pilot (Capt. Drăgănescu) lost control of the aircraft and crashed.

Yes, he was the only one killed prior to the war.

Capt. Ian Drăgănescu, his HC had stalled on 5 March 1940 on no"9" - KIFA, he was 1st commander of Esc. 53 van. Training on HC Rumanian had finnished on the beginning of 1941.

Mirek Wawrzynski

BTW

On the next post about HC in ARR I have read that Rumanian had assambled HC in the end of 1939.
In my data it was spring 1940, and not so far was German team who assambled first 11 Me 109 E (Pipiera airfiled).
Any coments ?

My fault either, :-)

Ian Drăgănescu, had not been 1st commander of Esc. 53 van. Of coures the first was cpt. av. Ioan „Puiu” Rosescu, soon replaced by cpt. av. Emil Georgescu.

MirekW
