Romanian (and not only) planes downed during ww2.

Cip we were talking about Brates lake and the 2 planes we know of that went down there: a romanian P11 and a romanian IAR-80 with its pilot inside. Here are the 3 pics of the lake:

Maybe we can find out wich area of the lake they fell in and thus restricting the search area.
But you also mentioned something about Mamaia and easier search there, what was that about ?

How bizare and strange is this lake ! unsure.gif
Almost like a square ...

Does the not so dark, blue colour of the lake mean the water is not so deep .. ?! .. dry.gif

Good job Mytzu!
Yes the lake is not so deep and has a lot of vegetation in it.
More then a year ago, when I first heard about the plane,I made contact with an experienced diver,Cristian Lascu, who's the chairman of N.Geografic in Romania.
I found also a guy who had a motor boat.
After a while I couldn't get in tuch with mr Lascu anymore sad.gif .
It was very strange, his secratary would said that he's rather in a meeting or away.
Maybee it was a coincidence but after about 10 calles I quited...
Now we have no diver ,no boat and not much time and good weather either.

Do you have more details about the plane? When and why did it fall? Who was the pilot?

About Brates, oance Cantacuzino told me something other planes that might rest there, including yak's... He also knows a marine biologist that knows many details about the lake, but not about wreks there, and yes, the lake is not verry deep. Also i found out from him that the pilot of the iar was in training stage, he hit the water whit the propeler while he was in "rasmot"
In the first stage we will need a boat, maby a rubber one... we could find there, not a problem, but we need the sonar, thats the most important thing. We need that even if we go to Brates or Mamaia.
Also near "Insula serpilor" is a huricane, but that is verry far and hard to find, but at Mamaia is an iar80 at maximum 1 km near the sore, and some hidros in the vis-a-vis lake, i know the aproximate location, i don't think is gonna be hard to find the wreks, we need that fisherman's sonar... wink.gif

Why not try to apply for funding and/or support directly at the National Geographic Society? It's a long shot, but maybe they will be interested.

Good idea. Certainly, they have the cash. I don't know about the interest, though...

Guys,
Like I wrote;I met Cristian Lascu, who is the chairman of NG Romania ,and who is an experienced resercher and diver.
We talked about an hour,I told him about Brates and the plane,he was very interested and friendly.Later I couldn't contact him anymore.I left him messages. He had my e mail and my phone nr.
It looked like he didn't wanted to meet me anymore (maybee because I'm a dentist smile.gif
I explained him the whole think; That ther's no IAR 80/81 left in Rom.That I'm not interested in money or honours, and that NG can take all the credit.
But.....

I guess the interest could arise if there are indications/rumours that one or more American planes crashed in the Brates Lake wink.gif .

What I meant to say is that you could try to contact directly the main offices of the National Geographic Society if it appears that the Romanian branch is not interested in the story. Maybe they will be interested in supporting the exploration of the lake.

Everything regarding Romania must pass by Cristian Lascu.
Maybee he lost my phone and email, and maybee he was realy ocupied when I called. But it seemed to me that he was avoiding me.I know I'm sometimes paranoic and generaly I can "read" people well enought but.....

Hmm ?!
Maybe a more official aproach should have more succes ?!
An open letter signed by as many as possible aero-enthusiasts ?!
I'm thinkig here at ordinary people and at well known ones.

Maybe Aeromagazin would give a help ?! unsure.gif

Who said that? The Headquarters of the National Geographic Society or Cristian Lascu?
