Just got a call from Mytzu;
Tomcat visited the Munteanu "phantom" veteran.
Aparently he flew Savoia and 111.

Is his name indeed Emil Grigore Munteanu?

I cannot tell.....
I maight forgot or Mytzu didn't told me the other name.
What I find strange ,is the fact that there were 3 Savoia pilots(Hladiuk,Coman,Constantinciu),and a 111 pilot- Stoian.
No one knew him!

Both the Savoia S.79 and the Heinkel He 111 were flown long after the war's end, as transports. Perhaps it was then when he flew these airplane types.
Again, his log book (carnet de zbor) would clarify the issue...

Tomcat didn't get his other name(s), but as I recall he did say he flew during the war. However we are going to meet him about 2 weeks from now so we will sort things out.As for Savoia and He-111 it could be just a bad timing - Stoian mainly flew Ju88, perhaps he flew He111 before Stoian got to the front and he briefly flew Savoia in '44 ... just speculations. Will clear this when we talk to him.

Indeed C2, hope you guys do not mind if I copy/p[aste the article here:

QUOTE

What pisses me of is that onle a few days later it was Navy day and Basescu was there and also a parade was held, but not on aviation day... oh well he is a sailor afterall, why would he care about romanian aviation ?

The day of the Romanian Navy is on 15 August, the day that celebrates the passing of the Virgin Mary. What you are probably referring to is the arrival of the Regina Maria frigate at Constanta.

hmm you are probably right, I was watching news on the run before leaving to work so I only saw a ship with some sailors on it and basescu saluting them... I heard no comments, so I just assumed they were celebrating navy day.
