I'll have to disagree with the text about N.polizu,in the pilots section.
Acording to Ioan Dicesare (and till now he was never wrong)At Karmatovskaia airfield (who ws shared between gr 7 and Germans -Coordonated by Eberhard Von Boremski. The Airfield was atacked by soviets planes. The Germans who had on standby a Swarm,took off to chase the atachers. Only two or tree Romanian pilots took off.Polizu and Dicesare. None of those two conected his radio. Polizu forgot to lift his landing gear,and Dicesare couldn't contact him. The problem was that as soon that they reached the bombers,the fighteprotection of the Soviets"fell on our heads..". Polizu's left radiator was leaking ,and again Dicezare hoped that he'll notice the saising temp. Dicesare got close on the tail of a bomber,but a German Major got near him and asked by singhts to be let to go on.Dicesare went away,not before seeing the bomber coming down in flames. At the base,Polizu didn't come.A plane was sent to look for him,and his plane was found on his back.Later Polizu was found dead in the plane. He tried to mahe a belly landing,but his landing gear was down.... Polizu with Stefan Greceanu. You'll have to guess who is who... This post has been edited by C-2 on July 16, 2005 02:20 pm |

Very interesting details on Lt. rez. av. Nicoale Polizu. Thanks.
I only wish Mr. Di Cesare would write his memoirs (or even tell the detailed story of his pilot's career to a 'reportofon')... The documents mention only few details on Polizu's demise: "Lovit in radiator in timpul luptei, avionul ars. Pilot voluntar". "Hit in the radiator during combat, airplane burned out. Volunteer pilot". The date of his death is given erroneously in several publication (incl. mine), as May 5 or May 6, 1943. Actually, he died on May 2. Interestingly, the 'Micsunesti' suffix to his name is usually not present in ARR documents. By the time of his death, he claimed ten airplanes, totalling 11 ARR victories. Gen. Dénes P.S. Talking of his biography on the ARR section of the site, it would be nice to correct the spelling of his name in the title, from 'Poilizu' to 'Polizu' and the date of his death, in the introduction (from May 5 to May 2, as it's correctly given at the end of the text). Loc.av. Nicolae Polizu-Micsunesti was decorated by the King Mihai with Mihai Viteazul Order in November 1941. Polizu was the first pilot decorated by the King in the ww2.

unfortunatly,Ioan Dicesare doesn't want to write any memories.
He is upset about "some guys" who wrote dif. books about the ARR,and that have a lot of Science fiction,lies and bed time stories in them. You are not in this category.But he didn't red any of your books aither. I suspect that he's angry about the lack of interest about the ARR here in Rom. More about Polizu,from Dicesare;
He was a great sportsman.Never drank alcohol. From a well known rich and influent family. He went to the ront as a volunteer. He was the first to get"Virtutea Aeronautica Cu Spade" in 1940,after shooting down a Hungarian bomber. |

There's nothing new, except the VA Order with swords Gold Cross class. I couldn't find it in 1940, but it is also true that I didn't cover November and December 1940 in the Monitorul Oficial. In his first mention in 1941 he appears with the VA Order with swords Gold Cross class with one bar. Polizu was among the first pilots to receive the Knight class during WWII (he was the first one nominated in the Royal Decree). Where gen. Dicezare is wrong (he is also human) is in the statement that Polizu was
. Appart from those who received it in the 30s for thsoe deeds during WWII, there was also the crew of IAR-37 no. 39 (serg. av. Constantin Macri, lt. Ion Ionescu, cap. I. Zugravoiu) from the 18th Squadron that was shot down on 25 August 1940 by a VVS fighter, two days before Polizu attacked the Hungarian Ca-135.
As for Polizu's last mission, I don't see what are actually the differences between Dicezare's testimony and what mr. Vasile Tudor found in the archives and then published. Both accounts mention the fact his aircraft was damaged (the radiator was leaking) after a fight with VVS fighters (the Soviets"fell on our heads..."). Dicezare did not see the crash. |

I guess Dicesare was refering that Polizu was the first ARR fighter who got the decor.
He speaks very quick and hard to write everything. Anyway,Polizu's plane didn't explode. "A decapotat".Polizu had his neck broken. And remember;You can be wrong,I can be wrong,God may be wrong. Dicesare's NEVER wrong! (talking about ARR bien sure). |

uhm, the airplane could have burned after crashlanding, and the cause of death could be a broken neck.

Guys,I have to apologize.
I did the mistakes. Dicezare said that Polizu was the first fighter pilot who got after the Odessa campain tyhe Mihai Viteazu order. (exept of Popisteanu,who got it Post Mortem). |

Four aviators received the Mihai Viteazul Order 3rd class for the 1941 campaign:
- lt. av. (rez) Ioan Lascu by Royal Decree No. 2844/11 October 1941 - slt. av. Vasile Claru by Royal Decree No. 2844/11 October 1941 - lt. av. Nicolae Polizu by Royal Decree No. 3202/14 November 1941 - lt. cdor. av. Alexandru Popisteanu by Royal Decree No. 40/7 January 1942 With the exception of Polizu, the other three received the order posthumously. There is also maj. gen. Gheorghe Jienescu, who received it by Royal Decree No. 2844/11 October 1941 |

Lt. Ion Simionescu also testified that Polizu's Bf-109G was hit when they were taking off and he tried to land his burning airplane, with the undercarriage still out. He capsized and the airplane caught fire and burnt.
