Well, I reply first, not waiting Mr. Cantacuzino's turn as the first in the row.

The burning wreck is No. 126, which collided with another '80 during taxiing. The unfortunate pilot burned alive in the cockpit, because the cockpit canopy sliding rails bent during collision and he could not open the canopy.
Once home I'll let you know the name of the pilot and the date of the accident.

This series of photos was taken by Slt. av. Ion Galea, who witnessed the tragic event.

Gen. Dénes

The plane an IAR 80 was used by 8th FG pilots in '41-'42. Some sources credited as flown by Lt.Micu Ioan. But he never had 13 victories on est front.
More likely were probably common victories of all pilots who flew and won vic. with this specific plane and used for propaganda purpose. The same situation was with american P-38 Lightning "Sad Sack".

Once Dan Antoniu told me that an IAR (to be read as IAR fighter groups) would have victories painted from all the pilots that flew it smile.gif So if 3 pilots flew that plane and each had several victories, you would see the sum of those painted on the tail.
