I need some help tracing what Romanian units operated in Crimea in the first campaign and what units operated in the second one. As far as I know in the first campaign only transport, medical, liason, recon, light bomber units were active there (none of the main fighter/bomber groups). However during the second campaign I know there was 1 IAR squadron based in Crimea also Ju87's - not sure about what other units.

Also, any info on 78th Marine Bomber Squadron ? What bases did it operate from and what duties (area of operations).

In the ARR's first campaign (Bessarabia & Odessa, 1941), no ARR units were in Crimea.
The first units arrived there only in 1942, basically short-range recce and liaison airplanes (mainly I.A.R. 39s).

Esc. 78 bomb., using He 111H-6s, employed in 1944 for maritime duties (without torpedoes, though), operated from Dobrudja, mostly from airfields around Constanta (Pallas, Ciocârlia). It was not based in Crimea.

Thank you Denes !

Gr 3 Picaj operated from Bagerovo (airfield near Kerch) together with german units and usually got protection from 13./JG52 Slovak 109 unit based at Anapa.

You were asking about the 1941 and 1942 campaigns, not for 1943-44.

First campaign = offensive '41-'42
Second campaign = defensive '43-'44

Well, you should try clarify what you personally understand by first and second campaign. I haven't encountered this first offensive/second defensive campaign split so far. Usually the first two big campaigns of the Axis forces in the East are considered Operation Barbarossa in 1941 and Operation Blau in 1942 with, obviously, smaller campaigns inbetween. The same in Crimea. The campaign in 1941 can very well be assimilated with Operation Barbarossa. The Soviet counteroffensive in December 1941 - February 1942 is the interlude before the start of the second campaign in May - July 1942 .

I am sorry, I was speaking in terms of Il2 flight simulator and virtual wars. In the virtual wars we fight if a map is played 2, 3 n times it will be known as 1st campaign (first time we lpay it), 2nd campaign (second time we play it), etc.

Crimea saw 2 major stages: german offensive and soviet offensive and this is how it is split in our virtual wars and that is what I actually meant.

Well, I was thinking you're referring to the ARR's campaigns. dry.gif

My fault, should have been more specific. I was trying to help out someone in a flight sim forum.
