Does someone have a photo of Hurricane No. 4 (at least the tail)? Thank you, in advance. Gen. Dénes |

Thanks, Cantacuzino. Currently I don't have access to any of my references, which are still in boxes, including the few Aeromagazine issues I have.
Strange, contrary to the colour profile, on the photo it seems that the rudder does not have the tricolour painted on. Perhaps the photo was taken right after the Hurricanes arrived to Rumania. Cantacuzino, if you have the whole photo, can you tell us if the markings are the pre-war roundels, or the so-called 'Michael's Cross' type? Gen. In the picture are not visible the markings (only the tail). All the pictures with rom Hurricane i've seen the number on the fin are toghether with Michael cross markings (I never seen a rom Hurricane with pre-war roundels and number on the fin). O.K., thanks. What about the tricolour on the rudder? Can you see some traces of it in your photo? Or perhaps on another photo of No. 4? I am wondering where did Morosanu take the info for his colour profile from? Gen. Dénes This post has been edited by Dénes on January 07, 2007 02:59 pm |

You are wondering to much You know that at one point that Hurricane wear tricolor rudder. It'a a matter of time and place. It's not the only picture like this ( remember IAR 80A nr 112 ). I saw another picture with no tricolor rudder on Huricane no 6 at IAR Brasov for repair . Probably the paint was erased, or the rudder had fabric cover changed after repair. Hi
Cantacuzino had used not only no 4 Hurricane but also no 7. In my last story (printed in Poland in VII 2006), I have put the photo of force- landed Hurricane with yellow 7. From Romanian sources is know, that not only 4 but he also used no 7 in comabt. During one such dules he had to force landed after being hit by Soviet's tail gunner. So this no 7 was also made as a color side in my story. Text is only in Polski, no any English captions. Regards, Mirek Wawrzynski Hurricane over Constanca and Odessa.
