if we go at Gearmata airport we may see a lot of aircraft lying in the open sky.for example in the northern part of the airport there are 2 twin engine transport aircraft (probably an-24 s) and one larger twin engine transport aircfat painted in white. Now east of the main parking lot for the larger transport (an-26) there is some kind of a hangar where there are 2 mig-21 in cammo painting and other 3 aircrafty probably mig-21s at theyr back ,following the same road we come across 7 lancers in cammo painting and 1 aircfat similar to a mig-23 all lying in teh open air.Now as we go north toward the main landig/take off strip we find another mig-21 and a helo probaly a iar-330 puma .if we continue our road towards east we find 2 large hangars painted in green, brown who dont look hardenned with concrete at all.facinf those 2 hangars are 2 swept wings mig-23s in retirement i think.East from those hangars is a an acees road who goes north towards teh main landing strip. In the s-e section there are around 28 mig-23s .The strip has a 29 marking at the end.And in teh extreme s-e corner is some kind of a radar station. The shadow uavs look like they are cocnceiled somewhere in those hangars near the transport aircraft. The base doesnt show any sam,aaa defences and ooks pretty vulnerable to a strike mission similar to the moked operation of teh israeli air force against the arab air forces..
I dont understand why the Romanian air forces doesnt have any concrete bunkers to protect its aircraft. And given teh fact that those lancers are verry close to the borderthe time they need to react at an atatck coming form teh direction of Hungary is verry short.I also dont understand why the shadow uavs are nera teh hungarian border when hungary is an ally. And those uavs dont have a greta autonomy so the only area that they could spy immediately is the boreder area with hungary and serbia. |

Do you know for sure that the UAVs are based there? Because I dont see how something can look conceiled, unless their presence is expected there. -------------------- I

hehehe... Man you should snap out of it... WE ARE NOT AT WAR ... WE DON'T HAVE ANY IMMEDIATE THREAT.
The Shadow UAV where a Giarmata because they bellong to a former Recconesance Squad that flew Mig21R if I am not mistaken. But anyway ... Giarmata is not longer and active base for RoAF. The only active base that have fighter planes are Base 71th C.Turzi, Base 86th Borcea and Base 95th Bacau. |

You're contradicting yourself. Why would an allied country attack Rumania? Gen. Dénes |

Those mig-21 s in cammo where going for teh take of strip yesterday.Maybe its a secondary abse for refuel or something but its still pretty active given the fact that a lot of cars are oarked infront of teh main entrance.

I said that why should an ally country put its surveilance systems near the hungarian border when infact the ebst opyion would have been bacau.

Why should Israel spy on the US...? Ally to ally politics are not quite the flower-power "sa ne iubim pe tunuri" kind... -------------------- I

then the placing of the FPS-117 radar station at Timisoara will mean that we wanna check hungarian air space for any boggies . Right?

But I do think that surveilling an ally and even Hungary has nothing ominous in it, having in view the existence of:

And a general rule.... in RoAF...mostly all the planes sit in open air... if is in hangers, then they are in repairs ...
Still the rummors where that Giarmata and Kogalniceanu had HAS's a somewhere. For example , at base 71 there is a SPAAG "divizion" with Gepards located in Campia Turzii. Related to the SAM sites... that is actully classified info. I never saw a Romanian SAM site anyware. We do have some SA-8 close to Cluj and I think also Gepards. So what are those old pictures suppose to show..? the line of Mig 23's ..which don't fly from 2000 ?
I think the base became inactive since Jan 2004. At the same date as MK. By Inactive means that they no longer register as being the home base of some fighter squads. It was proposed to became a US base. |

In the second photo you cna clearly see 7 mig 21 s and one mig 23 in the right. And in teh first one you cna clearly see a mig 21 going for the strip and a chopper probably a iar 330 l.Now i didnt sya the base was fully operational cause there are a few mig-21s but it looks more like a refuel or a secondary base.

As you said the romanian migs sit all in the open ar and the mig 23 row is shown in the first pic where you can clearly see a mig-21 and that iar 330 .Its clear that the mig-23 s dont fly but those mig-21s are sure operational.and the pics are actually from 2005.
