VZ24 comes from VZOR, which means "model" in czech language. 24 is the year (1924). VZ24 is the rifle (mauser system) also known to us as the ZB rifle. You cannot know for sure the year of the bayonet because, the year of manufacture was stamped on the scabbard hook. This post has been edited by ANDI on November 01, 2006 10:29 am |

The year was marked on the pommel of the bayonet on the other side of the attaching rail. Here are pictures of the markings found on my two VZ 24 bayonets; the first number indicates the factory were it was produced; the lion represents the period 1924-1939 and the last two numbers the year of manufacture. The circle on the right of the manufactures mark is the remains of the Romanian receiving stamp (one of the 7 types of this marking) meaning Copsa Mica. PS The picture of the bayonet you want us to identify is very bad, there are many bayonets of that type, with a better picture it would be easier. |

It's an air attack warning siren, it is hand operated by rotating the folded arm. |

What do you mean?
Now I understand why it is such an odd bayonet, it is transformed into a kitchen knife (probably for cutting pigs on christmas ), the shortened grip and the absence of the barrel ring gives the bayo an odd look; it creates the impression that the blade is much longer than it really is. |
