Could that be the Commander's cross of the Czechoslovakian Order of the White Lion worn beneath the Commander's cross of the Order of the Crown of Romania? |

Rear admiral Eustatiu Sebastian was started his military career in the infantry, graduating from Officer School in Bucharest in June 1877, just as the Independence War had started. He served in the 4th Infantry Regiment, distinguishing himself in the assault on Smardan, during the siege of Vidin. After the war he was promoted lieutenant in 1881 and transferred to the Flotilla (the name of the then small Romanian Royal Navy). He was sent to the Naval School in Brest, circling the world in 1884-85 with the French ship La Loire. In 1886 he came back, being promoted to captain. In 1888 he was named for the first time commander of the Mircea school sail ship, which he ably directed during the powerful storm that year. The second time was in 1894, when he was already major. In 1898 he commanded the cruiser Elisabeta during the first night torpedo launchings of the Romanian Royal Navy. During 1901-1903, he was the CO of the Sea Division and during 1904-1907 commander Eustatiu Sebastian tended the Navy's Arsenal. Between 15 April 1907 and 1 April 1909 he was the commander of the Danube Division. From 7 April 1909, being promoted to rear admiral, he was the commander of the Romanian Royal Navy, position which he held until January 1917. In August 1917 he resigned from the other position he had: director for the Navy in the Ministry of War and retired. Presently, one of the Tetal class frigates (no. 264) holds his name. Amazingly he was in his 90s when teh photo was taken. |

Carol I - yes, that is a Commanders Cross of the Czechoslovakian Order of the White Lion. It is worn from the button hole and not part of the medal bar although it appears so in the photo. I have seen Romanian medal bars that do incorporate 2nd Class orders into the Bars.

Do you have any other photos of generals to show? How about photos of field grade officers? There are many field grade officer's that would be interesting to both see pics of and learn about. |

FRN was the Official Romanian Facists Political Party or movement originally called the "Starja Tarii" (Guards of the Fatherland). founded in 1934 by King Carol 2. In 1938, this party was renamed FRN "Frontul Renasterii Nationala", Front of National Regeneration.

Denes - Your photo looks like this man here in this photo. Romanian Foreign Minister riding in open car with Nazi German Foreign Minister Von Ribbentrop. Von Ribbentrop was the first Person executed in 1946 after the Nuremburg War Crime Trials. This post has been edited by REGAL UNIFORMA COLECTOR on October 04, 2009 09:14 pm |
