Here is another photo I found of the FRN Diplomat. He should be easy to identify. His shoulder boards are of the twisted braid with 3 stars on them. This I beleive is the highest FRN rank similar to a Lieutenant General. This photo looks like it was taken just prior to the war as he does not have all the wrinkles on his face as the other 2 photos show of him on this site. Who is this person ?

He doesn't look like him, IMO. Anyway, if the photo is pre-war, then it can't be Macellariu, as he was only a commander at the beginning.

About the general who is wearing a french decoration : it's the "Légion d'Honneur".

The "rosette" show he is "Officier" of the Légion d'Honneur.

According to info passed to me by Victor on another thread here a General Alexandru Costescu commanded the 6th Infantry Division on Romania's entrance into World War I in August 1916.

Between WW1 - WW2, there were a few Generals named Costescu. Can you read the first initial in the signature of the foto ? I think it may be the letter "S".

Alexandru Costescu - General Infantry WW1
Constantin Costescu - General Infantry WW1
Dumitri Costescu - General Infantry WW1
Nicolae Costescu - General Infantry WW2
Stefan Costescu - General. Information, year and branch of military UNKNOWN.
....and there could be a few more General Costescus I don't know of.
