I am looking for some photos or info about the badge painted on the Bf109s of the Dessloch-Serbanescu "DS9" group.
Are there any clear photos of it, preferrably showing both sides?

If I remember correctly, the badge is presented in the book on Romanian Air Force Badges by George-Paul Sandachi.

Thanks Carol I,
I do not have that book. If you have it, can you please post a scan?

According to Sandachi, Serbanescu's plane was probably the only one sporting the badge. Furthermore, little is known about the colours of the badge, so the book gives three versions.

Thanks Carol I,
That is very useful...
It appears that the Bf109 used by Bazu to fly to Foggia also had that badge on the nose. Some artwork shows the same badge applied to the nose of Popescu Ciocanel's "White 2" as depicted in various Aeromagazin publications and "Yellow [or White?] 22" as depicted on the cover of Denes' "Rumanian Aces of World War 2"
I am looking for some photos of the badge applied to the DS9 Bf109s, if they are available.

Carol I,
can you please give me more details about the book "Romanian Air Force Badges" by George-Paul Sandachi that you mentioned above? Is it still in print?
Thanks,
Radu

I would suggest to ask Modelism Publishing House for details about this book.

According to Sandachi, Serbanescu's plane was probably the only one sporting the badge.

The unit emblem certainly was applied on more than one Bf 109G. Period photographs prove this.

Unfortunately, all my belongings are packed in boxes, so for the moment I cannot help you with scans of photos. Perhaps 'Cantacuzino' can do more.

Thanks Denes,
I am sure he will have an answer. I emailed him.
What I want to find out really is how the badge is painted on the right side of the aeroplane. On the badge posted above, the "winged arrow" is pointing left, respectively forward when placed on the left side of the fuselage.
When painted on the right side, was it handed (i. e. pointing to the right, respectively forward) or was it still pointing left, which in this case would be pointing back?
If it was handed, was the "slant" on the colour separation handed as well?
The only way I can figure that out would be by looking at photos of badges as painted on both sides of the Bf109s.

The problem is not only where the arrow points to, but also the colours of the shield.
I remember recognising on perid photos three different shades of colours, not two, which I've associated with the Rumanian tricolour.

Hopefully, 'Cantacuzino' can add actual scans, so we could all see it for ourselves.

I will check my HDD. I have a special folder dedicated to this issue.

The first time when discovered the 9th FG emblem was in Mr. Dobran house. Me and some of my friends were there to check his Aripi Romanesti collection. In one of the issue we found a B&W picture of the DS unit emblem. One of the guy Calin Ungureanu ( an artist )painted the emblem with colors at my suggestion. After that everybody used on rom Bf 109 color profile. Maybe it was not 100% accurate but it was a start.

Just wait to find the pictures rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

Thanks Cantacuzino,
the picture in "Aripi Romanesti" (No 67, 1944, page 6) appears to show a badge painted on the left side of the fuselage - It is painted over the bolts for the supercharger air filter supports (the supercharger was on the left side). It is the well-known version, as posted above. I would like very much to see a photo showing the right side, if there is one... or any other pictures. Any help is welcome.

Looking with magnifier at "white2" picture (and the plane next to him " 26a" both 9thFG ) it reveal the DS badge.
