Hello,
One constantly sees references in the English-language press to the effect that Romania ordered or considered ordering the Austro-Daimler ADGZ 8 x 8 armored car and/or other Austrian armored vehicles. Is there any truth to this, and if so, how many vehicles of this (these) models did the Royal Romanian Army wish to buy? Thanks in advance. Susan |

I have not seen any mention of the use of this type of armored car by the Romanian army during WWII.

No ADGZ for the Romanians.
From a study of sites / books dealing with armoured cars it appears that although the Romanians expressed an interest in the ADGZ none were ever delivered. The lack of reports of its use together with suggested production levels and their allocation, strongly support this idea. |

Hello all,
Thanks for the quick response. This myth goes back to Ick's 1945 book on armored vehicles, and has been repeated many, many times. Supposedly Romania, Greece and Bulgaria ordered these vehicles. I have wondered if the 25 vehicles ordered in 1942 for the Waffen-SS were assembled from parts produced for unfulfilled foreign orders--but no one seems to know, and it's probably time this story was put in the dustbin. Thanks again Susan  |
