Where can i find information and maps regarding this event?
I found craters in a forest near Arges, and i found out story telled by the elders that in Crevina (at S-V of Bucharest, at south of Bolintin Vale) the villagers helped the romanian army in tha battle, durring the night, whit the forks and in pijamas smile.gif thats how i heard it...
Anyway, i am intrested in finding out anything detailed about the battle.

With the forks?
Maybe they mistake it with a medieval battle. laugh.gif Otherwise I dont see how they lived to tell the story.

At that time i think they did not sleep naked anymore, i know, is hilarious, but that is the way the teller told me, and the story is told from father to son wink.gif

Now serious, any details about the event? Any maps?

If they were so succesfull, Antonescu should have raised "the fork legions" again in 1944, to stop the Soviet tanks. laugh.gif

Hello Cipiamon,
you can find a good map of operations from the battle of Neajlov-Arges in Kiritescu's "Istoria Razboiului pentru Intregirea Romaniei". I have used it on my trips to Letca and Valea Plopilor (former Balaria). The book also tells about heavy fighting in the forest around Bulbucata. .... wink.gif
I also have some sattelite photos of the area....... cool.gif

Thank you Andi, i hope i can find this book.
What kind satelite photo do you have?

Using th Google earth view program i discovered the signs of a battle near Timisoara. The thing is that in high res is only the region of Timisoara. You can see these signs at north of the city, near the river bed, there are many craters on one side of the river bed. But the rest of Romania is in low resolution... sad.gif

Look for vol.I of that book (I forgot to mention that).
The photos I have are from terraserver.com and I used them only for pin pointing the exact location of what I was looking for. They are in low res. format, you cannot see any details of the terrain, but they came very useful to me.
But you should try it.

I don't see what is so unbelievable. In ww1, many battles were still fought in close combat, with bayonetts. Certainly a fork is at least as good as a bayonett for close combat. Allso, those peasants would have had cover fire from regular Romanian soldiers (on the other hand, it was night that means low visiblity, that means ranged wheapons wouldn't have had such a big impact on either side).

Regarding the qualities of the Romanian peasant in melee combat: Many years ago I watched a talkshow on tv with a vetaran Romanian officer who fought at Oarba de Mures. He and his men were advancing through a vineyard when they were engaged by Germans in hand-to-hand combat. His soldiers threw away their rifles and pulled the araci (vineyard poles?) from the ground. He said that among his men therw were many peasants from Valcea county where there are a lot of vineyards, and they often used araci during brawls, so they beat the sh** out of the Germans with those. biggrin.gif
