It existed until at least 1954.

Where? The only open field in the area is between Razoare and Panduri and there used to be houses there before Ceausescu demolished them.

After i heard some stories about Cotroceni aifield i asked Cantacuzino about the location of the aifield, he pointed me the location and the fact that there are many older buildings there. I took my byke and found the remains of a hangar!
This is at Razoare behind the old buildings there, now is serving as a garden...







Let's hope he's gonna be there for a long time!

That concrete arcade indeed looks like the front piece of an aviation hangar. Very nice finding, Cipi.
Now a metal detector would relaly be handy...

P.S. Can you pinpoint the exact location on a Google map, so all of us can check it on-line?

OK, I know where it is now. It's near the old Ho Chi Mihn complex. In the top left corner of the photo is UMEB. IIRC, that's were the ASAM at Cotroceni used to be. Just a little above was the Aviation Officer School, which was tore down several years ago to make place for a new building.

Btw, the open field I was talking about is in the top right corner.

In the old pictures (1912-1913) the hangars at Cotroceni in elevation look triangular shape, not like this arcade shape. The runway was at north, or down the valley?

By the way, near Leu is another statue, i rember is it said that the first air crash was in that place... is allmost exactly at north this hangar.

The statue comemorate the first romanian aviation casualty Lt. Caranda Ghe. who crashed on Cotroceni airfield on 20 june 1912.
