Hi,

I would like to build a model of a Rumanian Henschel 129 and preferably in winter camouflage. Does anyone have any good pictures of such Rumanian HS129s? I have a set of Aeromaster decals which includes an individual numbered "120a".

BTW, was the distemper paint hand brushed or air brushed?

I would appriciate any help!

There is only a few known photos that show ARR Hs 129B-2s with white distemper colour applied over the standard Luftwaffe-style green camouflage markings. One of them is 'Yellow 120' (not '120a'), which was featured in my book on the Hs 129, published by Squadron/Signal, in 2001 (page 46). [On the same page, the photo of No. 120a shows it during wintertime, but with regular RLM 70/71/65 scheme.]

If you want to paint your kit in another winter scheme, I'd suggest to take a look in my book on ARR, 'The Prime Decade' published by the same Texan company in 1999. On page 55 top, there is a photo of 'Yellow 214', where the entire airplane and the camouflage is clearly seen.

Based on the photos I've seen, the white distemper colour was always applied by hand, with a wide brush.

By looking at it biggrin.gif

On a more serious matter, I rely on my experience and the small details visible on the print.
I also have a black/white version of this particular photo, showing more details than this one.

I said it's a color picture not a color photo.

That means it is possible to be a color picture published first time in WWII magazines. Some of this color pictures from WWII magazines could be colourized print of B&W photo but also could be print after original color photo.
Anyway the resolution of early color photo was lower compare to B&W photo.

A "photo" it's obtained only by photographing devices ( like digital camera biggrin.gif ).
"Picture" it's used for more literally meanings.

Hey Victor, you need it so much time (3 days) to put the link. rolleyes.gif
I worked with that long "Image shack" operation when the answer was not far away. unsure.gif

That was exactly the information I was looking for. Thank you very much for the swift and kind help.

So "120a" was actually painted RLM 70/71/65? The Aeromaster color profile shows this individual painted RLM 71/65! No wonder why this company is often called "Errormaster". Were all Rumanian HS129s painted RLM 70/71/65?

Thanks again!

Personaly i am not so sure is colorized, first it gave me that impresion too, but after looking more careful i can see that the people's faces have different tone of color, the blue of the sky is verry authentic, aplying a blue shade over a gray-white surface will result in a full blue surface or blue-darken blue surface (darker in places where was mare gray) but in the picture the clouds are white, and the border between the cloud and sky is verry natural. But there are also signs that the photo cold be colorized. If the man's uniform were black, for sure is colorized. The black of the the plane's weel is a different color of that of the color of the men's uniform, plus there are whiter spots of snow... If is colorized is extrimly well done in some places and in others verry bad, note the tent of blue-cyan in the lower side of the picture.

If we look at this man's face

we see at least 3 sades of color, more red-pinkish at the guy's ear biggrin.gif

Any other opinions?
