The SRI also brought some vans for the parade and the personnel to ... man them. biggrin.gif

Looks like the best place to park the armor was in front of the Russian Embassy.

If you would have stayed a little more, you could have seen some of our politicians leaving the area, including "Popeye" who took a lavish "crowd bath".

The five guns and their crews in the Herastrau Park. They each fired a shot when the parade began.

Or 4 and 1/5 shots each rolleyes.gif ? For "zero level" inter-state or national protocols (visit of foreign heads of state, national holydays and so one) the rule is that 21 salvoes are fired. For today’s ceremonies, all 21 shots were fired during the intonation of the national anthem.

This unit, which ended the parade, was created in 1860 by the transformation and completition of the 3rd battalion from the 5 Line infantry regiment. It was named Batalionul de vanatori and it had 8 companies (instead of 4, like the “normal” infantry battalions). From the very beginning, because of the armament (the first rifles to be used by the Romanian army, from 1861) and the intensive training it received, it was considered an elite unit - Milea, Pascu, Ceauşescu (ed.) Istoria militară a poporului Român, Bucharest, Editura Militară, 1987, vol. IV, p. 428.

Also, besides its usual military duties its companies formed, by rotation, the guard corps of the princely (and later the royal) palace in Bucharest.

OFF-TOPIC: very nice photos, Victor.

Very cute indeed… they should make a poster with her: “Join the Gendarmerie!”, when they advertise for new personnel recruitment. biggrin.gif

I agree, but personally I liked the SRI "Bond Girls" more. Certainly the SRI cares about their "image"
