Are there any stories, officer reports, or any type of recorded info about the TACAM's combat performance? You know, how many tanks were destroyed by them or how useful they were. Did they destroy many tanks?

Thanks

I think if you are interested you can use a couple of works such as Ion S. Dumitru's 'Tancuri in flacari' and Col. Constantin Ucrain's 'TANCHISTII' The first one is a reference of an officer of tanks in the 1st and then 2nd tanks regiment in WW2 and the second one is a selection officers careers in WW2. You may find some info there.

In theory, taken separately the TACAM gun's (76.2mm F-22) specifications and the armor protection of T-34, the gun could penetrate the armor of T-34 at over 1,800 meters. In practice it may be a different story. I've yet to see trial or combat reports of TACAM T-60.

Hello! I was browsing on this site recently, reading the articles on Romanian armor, and I noticed a contradiction regarding the surviving numbers of TACAM R-2 in autumn 1944. The article on the TACAM R-2 says there were only 6 left in September, but the article on Romanian tank forces says that in October, there were 16 of them. So, which is the correct figure?

What if the 10 pieces came from the factory meanwhile? I know we are talking about the Romanian industry of 1944, but 10 tanks in 1 month, or in 1 month and a half, doesn't sound quite impossible to me.

Hi Mihnea,

Why was production stopped? Had they run out of suitable guns and chassis?

Cheers,

Sid.

SiG, the 6 TACAM R-2s are specifically mentioned as "serviceable". That means that there were others that weren't funtional and needed repairs. For instance, on 31 August 1944, the 2nd Tank Regiment had 6 TACAM R-2s in its base, out of which only one (registration plate U 039244) was serviceable.

Sid, the ministry of defense considered that the 76.2mm main gun was inadequate against the Russian IS tanks, even the T-34 armor could be penetrated at a maximum of 600m.

The remaining R-2 tanks (20) were proposed do be modified with either German 88mm gun or the Resita M1943 75mm AT gun, but they were never modified.
