This one is described as Medal of the Presidential Guard of Honor. I wonder whether the "presidential" appelation is right. |

At the time of the withdrawal from Afghanistan, present day Republic of Moldavia was still a Soviet republic in USSR. |

Following the custom of the Russian Patriachate, the Moldavian Metropolitanate subordinated to the Russian Orthodox Church maintains a series of religious awards (orders and medals). OK, but what does that mean? They had troops there or they adopted USSR medals? And why would they keep it 15 years after Afghanistan. take care -------------------- I

Many Romanians from Bessarabia served in Soviet units that were deployed in Afghanistan and the war left some marks over there.

There were some reports stating that Moldavian commando units composed of Afghanistan veterans were quite successful in the Transdniestran conflict before the Russian intervention. |
