The National Military Museum has started publication of several books in a seriers entitled "Colectia Dorobantul" due to come out in 2004-5. This series is published by Total Publishing in Bucharest. There are 6 books that I know of to be published. They are as follows :
1- Romanian Army during the time of Alexandru Iaon Cuza 1859-1866.
2- Tanks and armored vehicles in the Romanian Army 1919-1947.
3- Insignia / badges of the Romanian military 1915-1947.
4- Flags of the Romanian military 1830-1994.
5- Mountain Troops of the Romanian Army 1916-2000.
6- Romanian Army during the Balkin War 1912-1913.
These books are written in Romanian and English with many photos and colored plates and are done very much in the same format as the Men-at-Arms series.

The 1859-66 Romanian Army and the Romanian Army in the Balkan War are probably written by Horia Serbanescu, Cornel Scafes & co and very similar to the ones on the Romanian Army in WWII and in the Independence War published a while ago. Looking forward to these new additions to my bookshelf! biggrin.gif

I bought today the first two books of the series that have already been published:
No.1: Armata Romana in vremea lui Alexandru Ioan Cuza (1859-1866) by Cornel I. Scafes, Horia Vl. Serbanescu, Corneliu M. Andonie and Ioan I. Scafesm Total Publishing, Bucharest 2003
No. 2: Armata Romana in misiuni internationale (1991-2003) by Calin Hentea, Cornel Scafes, Horia Serbanescu, Coresi, Bucharest 2004

First I was disappointed by their size compared to the other monographies published in 1996 and 2002 by roughly the same authors (which have 320 and 480 pages). The new books are thin: some 80 pages and the book format is closer to A5 than the A4 of the older ones. However they cover subjects on which little was published and are presented in a very nice package. They are also cheap (40.000 and 70.000). I remember I paid 480.000 in 2002 for the book on the Independence War.

They have an English summary and the captions of the photos and illustrations are bilingual.

How much is this in € or in $?
How is the exchange course to the new Romanian currency?

Use www.convertor.ro

In the left column, there are two select boxes "alege valuta" (choose currency)
"din" means from, and "in" means to. Then use the box "introdu suma" (enter the sum).

The price mentioned (40.000 and 70.000) is in ROL: LEU. The new romanian currency, RON: Leul Nou has the following exchange rate: 1 RON = 10.000 ROL.

You may also use Oanda. It's in English and has both old and new Romanian currencies (ROL and RON) with the rates mentioned by Dragos.

@Dragos, @ CarolI

Thank you for the links, it is now much easier to understand the prices!

Greetings
