Here is an images of sdkfz-222 in romanian colors... The problem is that i don't have any pictures with this vehicle, only texts ( and some veteran memories...).
Romanian used this type of reco vehicle both on the east and west fronts. This renders (made in 3D Studio Max) show an ipotetic camo and markings of this unit on the east front. This post has been edited by bogdan_p on February 14, 2006 10:33 am |

Thanks Victor! The third vehicle has the 20 mm cannon and seems prety close to my images. Also it seems that they don't have any markings or numbers... I think that on the front they should wear some unit markings and numbers.

Victor, when was that photo taken? Do you know where? A Bucharest 10 May parade, maybe?

The two vehicles in foreground are SdKfz 223 (commanding vehicles, have no 20mm gun but a big antenna) the vehicle in background is an SdKfz 222. The picture was probably taken at the military parade on 10 may 1944. @bogdan_p Grate job, but there are a few small mistakes and some bigger like the white square cut by a diagonal was placed on transport vehicles not AFV's and the SdKfz 222 and 223 had 4-wheel steering . |

The white square cut by a diagonal was painted on some Zundapp and BMW motorcycles used in "Regimentul 1 care de lupta". This Sdkfz-222 was use in the same unit on the east front and I asumed that sign could be painted on them too... That markings were made without any pictures to see...so there are fictional.
Sdkfz-222 didn't steer with all 4 wheels in the same time . |

Zundapp and BMW never seen them; could you post them, I only have seen one with a whit square without the diagonal. However the white square crossed by a diagonal was never used on AFVs, it represented transport vehicles. |

I don't know why it did not steer with all 4 weels! But I can see in the pictures that.
I 'll find that picture with that sign and I'll post it. I don't know much about that sign, maybe you are right about it. |

It did steer on all 4 wheels as you can see in this picture; unfortunately I don't remember the source but it is from the internet.

Agarici, I don't know at which 10 May parade the photo was taken, but it couldn't have been earlier than 1944.
Bogdan, from what I know, in 1944, the Special Motorized Group, to which the armored recon companies were subordinated had license numbers going from 042.500 to 042.999 and 016.451 - 016.850. I believe the latter series were for the trucks and the first one was for armored cars. For instance, the only "AB Horch" present in the garrison of the Special Motorized Group at Campina in tehsummer of 1944, had the registration number 042.610 |

Sorry, my mistake as written in the link I posted the steering could be on the front or both axels.
PS Victor you can delete my picture at any time. This post has been edited by mihnea on February 14, 2006 04:18 pm |
