1. Did the ARR pilots have a Romanian nickname for the 109E "Emil"? I've heard they called the "Gustav" the "Gheul", Im wondering if that was the only one with a different name.
2. Were the ARR operated Bf110s painted in ARR markings with German codes, or left entirely in Luftwaffe markings? 3. Are there any photos of ARR operated Fw190s, or just the odd profile that I keep running across? 4. Was there a Romanian award given to units, rather than individuals, for excellence or bravery in action, like the US Presidential Unit Citation and Distinguished Unit Citation? 5. Are there any color images (either period or modern) of the shoulder braid worn for the Virtutea Aeronautia and Mihai Viteazul? 6. Were the Brasov built 109G6s of the normal, early type or the later type with the Erle Haube canopy and taller tail? |

In Romanian "Gheul" means simply "The G". |

As far as I know for Bf 109E, romanian pilots called "Emil" (like germans).
As far as I know only one Bf 110 was painted with rom. markings. All others were left with Luftwafe codes .
Only 2 or 3 pictures known with rom. FW 190 markings ( one with Michael cross and two with roundels).
All pictures with "Brasov" Bf 109 G6 show them with standard "G" canopy (no erla) and standard tail fin (not tall). Only the fuselage cowling bulges were different from a standard G-6 version. |

Ok then, counter questions- do you know where on the web I can find photos of these 190s? all I can find is profile drawings.
And how did the blisters differ from a standard 109G6? |

I suggest you to look into some books on ARR, instead of the 'net. Gen. Dénes |

Not so much to tell. It is an accident after the war with Bf 109 G6 no 334 pilot unknown (probably year '46-'49) This post has been edited by Cantacuzino on February 09, 2006 09:37 pm |

So it still has roundels, not stars...
Does is still have the white rear fuselage ring and wingtips? Gen. Dénes P.S. The closest accident I have is for No. 335, W/O in June 1946. This post has been edited by Dénes on February 10, 2006 12:19 am |

I don't know where to get any books that might have those pics (other than the Prime Decade, which I no longer have a copy of, and Romanian Aces of WWII). Plus I do not have access to a scanner, and I need digital copies of the pics to submit with the skin I am working on of an ARR Fw-190F8. Any skins used in Aces High must be approved by the administration, and one of the requiremenst for approval is photographic evidence of the skin actually having been used in WWII on a combat aircraft. For the same purpose I am also searching for any photos of the Bf-110 that was painted in Romanian markings. |

Figured I would reopen this thread rather than start a new one for the same topics.
I'm still looking for any photos (and still don't have a scanner) of ARR operated (and Romanian marked) Fw-190s and Bf-110s so I can succesfully submit a few skins for Aces High. I recently had 3 109s included (see my thread in the "Modelling and Art" forum), and now I'm looking to do a couple of pro-allied G-6s (probably a Ga6 to be used on the G6 model, and a late-model tall-tail and Galland-hood for the G14), another G2, and the 110 and Fw-190. I'm thinking of doing Ion Galea's 'Red 1', as shown on p.71 of "Romanian Aces of WWII" (the one with Teodor Greceanu sitting on the tail) as late-model G6. That or Greceanu's 'Yellow 3'. Did any Ga6 see combat, or were they only put into service after the end of hostilities? I would also like to do a Ju-88 and a Ju87, but the models we have in the game are very old and due for replacement, and I don't want to do all that work just to have the plane get remodelled and the old skin not work any more... |
